The day I thought I'd never see has come. I think I may have dead pixels but am not sure. This morning I turned on my Axim to finish reading a comic book. I noticed there were two horizontal lines that are of a grayish color. They started out short but as they day went on they got longer.
I'm in disbelief. I rely heavily on my Axim and take VERY GOOD AND GINGER care of it! I tried everything I could think of- such as starting it in Safe Mode. That didn't help. My last resort was to do a hard reset which did not solve the problem. I'm going to try a screen capture to test my hypotheses that it is indeed dead pixels.
This is the screencapture I just took.
And this is a touched up Photo to simulate the gray lines I am seeing.
So is this dead pixels??? I do have a one year aftermarket warranty on my Axim so we'll see how that goes. I'm not sure if the ebay seller will repair or replace it.
I don't know about being without my Axim for that long tho!!!

Yeah, with any (good) luck it'll just solve itself. :D

I was a little leery on rubbing the screen because of my warranty concerns. I also left a mostly white screen on to wake up those comatose pixels but no luck!
This is just after I had to format an HD on a comp here at home so you can imagine how stressed I was. That's another story within itself
So an email later I got a price quote from my seller for $36.99 to have my screen replaced. Like I mentioned I have an aftermarket warranty so my peeps there said they would do it at their expense.
:approve:
The only drawback is NO AXIM FOR ??? WEEKS!!!
lol

I couldnt do a couple of weeks, sadly I felt really lost without my axim when my crappy sdhc started corrupting, and that was only for a week or so. I had my smartphone, but really it doesnt compare when you're used to a full featured pda. Hope the screen replacement goes well.
My HP Ipaq 211 did the same thing; have warranty on mine; sent to HP repair, on their dime, on a Tuesday and got it back, that week, on a Thursday. I know how you feel about being without it for Anytime. The only saving grace I had was my sister, who lives with me, was very gracious to let me use her's.
While my Ax is in for a face lift I have a backup plan.
:)
I originally was going to look for an affordable "bargain basement" X51v but what are the chances of that??? I have decided to purchase a laptop within the same price range of what the X51v's are going for on EBay.
I just found out that we're finally getting DSL where I live (was on dial up for years) and the idea of having a laptop and my PDA sounds good!

I like the Netbooks, however, I'm on a very tight budget. I am looking to buy a n older computer with a decent processor, RAM, and warranty. I just don't have the disposable income and want something that can basically get on the net and word process on. I do like to game occasionally but that can be achieved on the desktop.

Still am negotiating a send back for my Axim. There is a mis-communication between the seller and my warranty company that is IMO so easy to resolve! I should get some word back today and if they do not get back to me I'll send the Ax back to the dealer and get a reimbursement on shipping from warranty ppl.
I also have a laptop on the way :)
It's an old IBM T30. I did some Googling and found that this model has some issues. I really hope I receive one with some kind of supernatural immunity against all things that could go wrong!!! :o
It's a start for me. I can always upgrade in the future when things pick up around here :)

The strange pixel problems I was having are gone! I also got myself a bluetooth dongle and had the dickens of a time configuring it with the Ax! I have a serial cable but wanted to try it with the bluetooth. After a night and four hours this morning I got it!
I do have a question tho- If I activesync with the comp I can pretty much do anything right??? Like sending files, getting on the internet via bluetooth, etc. We got Wi-Fi here at home but for some reason the X30 is a pain as far as connecting with the router! I've read threads and see that quite a bit of people also have connection issues with routers. We use WPA-TSK may be the reason- I'm not sure.
Anyhow. Thanks for all your help guys :D

Yes the WPA-TSK is most likely the problem.
I don't think there is a way around it, except perhaps the Odyssey Client, but I'm not even sure about that.
You could buy yourself a second cheap Wifi router and just use wep purely for your Ax.
The BT ActiveSync has the same functionality as cabled, it might be a little slower but it will certainly give you pass through internet.
Edit: come to think of it, a couple of things wont work with a BT internet connection, Skype, for example, needs to be Wifi and I think you will have problems with any sort of video.
