Increasing Memory

Hi,

New to the forum and to my Dell Axim X30. I have removed all of the programs that were on the PDA when I got it, but there are still some programs that I don't need, but don't know how to remove. Excel, Word, etc. I'm sure they're just taking up valuable memory, so how do I remove them?

I only want to use my PDA at work with medical software and I'd like to free up as much space as possible. Are there ways to increase the memory beyond removing programs? Feel free to talk to me VERY slow like I'm an idiot, because I'm pretty technology challenged.

ANY/ALL advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

There is no reason to talk to you like you are an idiot. We were probably all technology challenged when we got our first windows device!

The first thing I'd suggest you do is perform a hard reset to return the device to factory settings. To perform a hard reset, push the reset button and the power button and hold both buttons for 3 seconds, then release them and follow on screen instructions...

A hard reset will remove all of the prior user's settings, files, and anything else they might have added to the device and return it to its factory settings. Right after you perform the hard reset, the RAM memory on the device will be as good as it's going to get. Some software, like Word, Excel, and any other software you see on the device after the hard reset, is installed in the device's ROM memory and there is no way to remove those applications. Even if you were able to remove those applications, you would not get any useful memory since ROM memory is never available to end users.

You can install a lot of programs, and probably even your medical software to a storage card that you'll use with the device...just consider it another drive.

Once the hard reset is done, I can increase the memory/storage on my x30 by adding a SD memory card? Do you recommend any particular brand or size in SD cards? Would it handle a 2G card? What's the largest size SD card it can handle?

Thanks so much Juile. Great information and very timely!

Remember to buy an SD card (NOT SDHC, as x30 cannot read SDHC). 2 GB should be fine.

I always recommend Sandisk, Kingston, PNY, or maybe even Transcend. Do NOT buy from eBay, as many of those cards are generic cards or bogus.
