X30 Restore

I made a big mistake, I lost all of my data and programs on my X30, won't go into details. I was going to do a restore but instead I did a backup. I know that when you do a restore it restores the most recent backup which had nothing on it. Can you choose which backup you can restore or does the new backup deletes the old one ? Where are the backups stored on your computer, I could not find them.

Thanks Bill

You should be able to make multiple backups without overwriting the previous one(s). Just make sure it is named differently. As to where they are saved, it depends on the program and what you have set as default. As a start, check the memory card on your device and the ActiveSync folder on your computer.

My backups are in C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Microsoft\ActiveSync\Profiles\some_folder
They are called Backup.stg. I have copied them around. It will restore the one from the profile(the folder) that active sync indicates it is connected to.

I found a backup I made on 08-03-09 which should have all of my data and programs. When I do a restore how do I choose this backup instead of the one I made on 08-13-09 ? I'm using active-sync to do the restore.

Thanks Bill

I always found the restore using the device by itself easy. This means the device is not hooked up to a computer. Just make sure you have a very good charge and if possible plug your device in to an AC adapter. I've foolishly restored by battery power but by the love of the PDA gods nothing happened b/c I had a decent charge

;)

If you would like:

Tap Start>>Programs>>Data Backup>> and choose Restore from the two tabs at the bottom of the screen>> and if you have more than one back up and the one you would like is not shown- choose "Restore from following backup" and navigate to that Backup file.

Then tap Start.

:approve:

Good to go after that!

During the restore process, you should be prompted to choose the file you want to use. Go through each step slowly and carefully to watch for the prompt.
