help! strange games icon dissappearing

i am having a weird thing happen with my games icon. after installing all of my software on my axim and doing a soft reset i get a new icon in my games folder entitled "icon" when i click on it , it says "shellres.dll, -8229" not found. the werid thing is i cant get it to go away out of my games folder and when i did move it to the windows folder my games icon became a normal looking folder. i even moved it back and the games folder still didnt dispaly properly. has anyone had this occurance or know of a possible solution <i dont want to hard reset and all my apps work> should i be concerned ?

Have you uninstalled a game recently? It looks like something left over from an incomplete uninstall.

I dont get anything in Google. Ignore that icon named 'Icon' for now and try if any game works. Also check in Explorer to see if there is a trace of a GTS racing folder. If so, go ahead and delete it.
However I think it was a bad uninstaller that left crap on your system. I can't find anything else on Google, so I'd go and perform a hard reset

I don't think I would rush into a Hard Reset. Go to remove programs on your Axim and see if the game is still there. If it is hit remove. If a piece of it is still there it will give you the file name (usually). If that doesn't work, back up your axim and then go through some of you program and windows folders looking for anything related to the game you are having trouble with and delete them. If you mess up, you can always restore your Axim to where it was before you deleted files.

You can also tryo to reinstall and then uninstall through your ax. Make sure the game is not running in the background either before you remove it.

That "icon" file is what gives the game folder a nice icon. You can see it because at some time in File Explorer you selected to View All Files. Turn that off and the icon in the games folder will go away (after a soft reset). If you delete that icon file, your games folder won't look like the games folder anymore. It'll just look like all of the other folders.

Start File Explorer
Hold down the stylus at the end of the file/folder list until the menu appears.
Uncheck "View All Files"
Soft Reset

I had a similar problem with my x3i. Found this response on the Dell Forums:

I might have a solution for you. If you Explore the Windows\Programs\Games folder, do you see a shortcut file named gamesico? If you do, rename it to icon and the Games folder icon will reappear. I think gamesico showed up after a soft reset and appeared in Games but might have been in Programs (I moved it around trying to find a fix). If in Programs move it to Games and rename.

I did the above and then did a soft re-set. My games folder icon is back to its' old self and the problematic icon is gone. Here is the link to the Dell Forum discussion:

THANKS ALOT everyone, especially Ishale!! this was a mind boggler, after reading your reply and the posts on the dell forums i am all better and my games icon is back to normal, all WITHOUT doing a hard reset. my problem was i had the "view all files" checked in file explorer. i did indeed copy the gamesicon into the correct folder renaming it and the icon reappeared.

Glad I could help. That's what I love about the forums - I learned something from someone and was able to pass it on to help someone else. Every once in a while I get that funny icon back so I have to go thru the renaming process again but it only takes 5 seconds.

My eperience with this was to go to File explorer/start menu/programs/games and there it was GamesIcon. All by itself. I simply deleted it and problem was fixed. :approve:
