1. Go into your Start Menu -> Settings -> System -> Power -> Processor
2. Set your Processor Speed to PowerSave or Auto. PowerSave is better for your situation right now, but you can mess around with "Auto" to see which works best for you.
3. Go into Start Menu -> Settings -> System -> Power -> Advanced
4. Check the "Turn off device if not used for" and set it to 3 minutes.
5. Go into Start Menu -> Settings -> System -> Brightness
6. Make sure to turn the blue slider down to the left as far as you can while still being able to view the screen. You want it as dim as possible while still being viewable which will definitely save on a good deal of juice being drained.
7. Go into Start Menu -> Settings -> System -> Brightness -> Battery Power
8. Choose "Dim if device is idle for more than" 30 seconds is good. You can also choose 1 minute too, but go for 30 seconds and see how it works for you.
By tweaking the brightness and the speed of your processor, it will cut back substantially on battery drain.
Another tip is to only have WiFi running when absolutely needed. Don't have WiFi running while you're messing with Solitare or talking on the phone unless you are actually actively using it. WiFi is a HUGE drain on the battery. Keep it turned off whenever possible.
Personally, if I just opened up a text heavy page and know I will be reading it for a bit, I let the whole page load. Press the WiFi button to disable WiFi while I read that whole page and just before I get to the end of it, I re-enable WiFi so that I just save 5 minutes of juice and still get to read and browse all the web pages I want.
Having an extra battery is actually a necessity if you are away fro a charging source for long periods of time, use your Axim a lot, or use WiFi. Second after a screen protector is an extra battery in my book! You can go on Ebay and find a Mugen Extended 1100 battery for your Axim for $35! It provides 15% more than the standard Dell OEM battery with basically the same form factor. Or a Dell OEM 1800 Extended battery, or a Mugen 2000 mAh battery which goes for about $40 - $45 (if brought on Ebay-- don't buy directly from Dell unless you want to blow $99 on a battery).
The batteries take up so little real estate in your pocket that you won't even know it's there, especially the normal sized battery. Trust me, I carry a spare with me in my back pocket almost daily! Just make sure there are no metal objects like keys in the same pocket as the extra battery that could cause the battery to short or discharge ortherwise put it in some plastic like a Ziplock baggie and you can have anything in that pocket-- as long as it doesn't puncute the Ziplock bag.
Experiment with your settings and you'll find that you have more than enough juice to get you through a normal day. And if you're still a bit short on battery, consider the options that I laid out above.
If you still find you need a bit more help in the battery department, try a Processor Hacking tool like XCPUScalar or Pocket Hack Master which allows your to UNDERCLOCK your Axim X30 saving on valuable battery life!! Let me state clearly that this should be as a "last resort" and not to be taken lightly as it does "void your warranty" and can cause a hard rest. Do a full backup, install the program and UNDERCLOCK your Axim as low as it can go when you are NOT using processor heavy applications.
I have XCPUscalar. I have my Axim X3i set to the lowest it can go: 100 Mhz!! I use this setting when I'm listening to MP3s and doing a ton of other tasks like viewing text documents, messing with my calandar, indox, contacts, notes, etc. Anything that's not processor heavy. The beauty of XCPUScalar is that you don't have to tinker with the settings everytime you want to turn down your processor speed-- it can do it for you AUTOMATICALLY depending on the real-time drain on your processor! BRILLIANT!
You should check it out, but again, know the risks invloved and use these "hacks" as a "last resort" when even a backup battery doesn't get you through the day and tweaking your settings still isn't enough.
I hope this helped. Best of luck. :approve:
