Another Strange Problem with new X30 and WiFi
I just received a X30 yesterday and I am unable to get it connected to my Linksys Router at home. Router is a BEFW11S4 that is set up as an AP only. (Linux box handles all firewall/routing for network).

I spent hours on the phone will Dell India trying to troubleshoot it, but their solution is to just send me a new one.

At home, the X30 will see the SSID of the AP for a moment, then it will disapear. When I set the IP addess as static and go into the network troubleshooter, it shows my IP as 0.0.0.0. I upgraded the Linksys firmware last night at Dell India's request, but still no solution.

WEP, WPA is turned off for testing, and of course my laptop has no problem using the AP.

I brought it to the office today and had NO problem connecting to the Linksys AP and the Airport AP we have here in the datacenter. Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks!!

I just got my new X30 from the UPS guy a few hours ago. I ran into the same exact problem. I can connect, but cannot grab an IP from my router (same model, linksys befw11S4).

I fixed this by removing all the settings I tried, and using that odyssey client app that come with mine on the same screen as all the other networking setup things. I set up my connection in there, and chose all the nifty options, let it scan for a minute or two, and it works now.

The only other thing I tried was I went to "Connections" and chose configure proxy server, checked the box "Connect directly to the internet (or something like that)" and unchecked the proxy sever box, I got it to work.

Using it now with WPA-PSK and MAC authentication with no problem. Just don't mess with the connection that it puts in the dell config section and it worked for me. No other problems with the internet connection that I can see.

I had the same issue when I first tried to WiFi and after hours of frustration, I soft reset the unit, turn it off as well as everything related to WiFi and went to bed. The next morning I started all the devices one by one and connected at first try. I don't know if it was the soft reset or the complete shutdown. To this day it is working fine.

I'm ready to throw this thing out the window!!!!

I did the firmware upgrade, and that seemed to help. Immediatly after the upgrade I was able to connect to the AP and ping a few sites on the net, however I could not access any web pages. I changed the preamble setting on my AP to see if that would fix the problem. After changing it I was totally unable to connect again. I changed it back and now it will connect of ra few moments then it will disconnect. Now it seems to pick up the SSID but I can not even connect.

I have worked in the IT industly for years and I can not remember a problem that has gotten me this frustrated in a long time. And the DELL India tech support are an absolute joke. After 2 hours on the phone with some guy named Hadji, they just decided that the easiest solution was to just send me a new X30. Never did they recomment the firmware upgrade.

As I mentioned before, I brought the X30 to my datacenter and it immediatly detected both AP's we have there. Another Linksys ans an Apple airport with no problems. I have cleared the settings on the linksys here at home and started over, but I have no sucess. Of course, my laptop has NO problem using this AP.

BTW..where is the preamble settings on the X30? I looked under advanced and I see the settings to disable power management, but nothing for preamble.

I have read every post I could find on this issue, but nothing seems to help.

Please advise.

Thanks!!

I had this problem with my Linksys router - the X30 seems to *hate* subnet mask 255.255.255.0

Try 255.0.0.0 - Use the IP range: 192.168.0.x - where X is 1-255... Let me know if that resolves? Mine works fine now... DHCP is just lovely..

You might find that with your current setup within the troubleshooting option you can select manual IP settings - and it will then connect, a Subnet change should allow automatic assignment.

Mine did this a several times. Resetting the Linksys helped a few times. Other times I had set my IP manually to get the Axim to log on to the network. Once it was logged on then I could change over to DHCP. This is with A05 on the Axim. I'm not sure of the firmware or the model of the Linksys.

ok...I finally got it working. I upgraded the firmware to A05 and now it works fine!! It's a little slow rendering pages, but at least it works. I'm going to try to get WEP working next.

When your browsing... go into power settings and set CPU to "max speed".

That works for me.
