Worried Can't upgrade to the new A05 firmware. Anyone else?

Hi folks,

I've recently attempted to update the firmware of my AXIM X30 mid 312Mhz PDA to the new A05 firmware, however, upon running the firmware update program, does a hard reboot, goes into a waiting state for the firmware update, but nothing ever happens. I take the X30 out of the cradle and the program states that it cannot detect the PDA once i replace it in the cradle. Not sure what's going on. Do i have a dodgy Axim X30?? Nothing is being uploaded. I've reinstalled MS ActiveSync 3.7.1 and tried it on another computer and still the damn PDA won't let the program upload the new A05 firmware. Am i alone on this one?

I'm a noob to PDA's and this is my 2nd AximX30, after the initial one that i received in the box had the issue of where you could not turn it off. You physically had to pull the battery out to turn of the damn unit!

Anyone shed any advice as to what i should do? Should i ask for a replacement AximX30???????? I just want it to do what i want it to do...... grrrrrr

Not exactly sure whats going on. I had no problems upgrading to A05. It does take a while for the flashmemory to be re-written. Also, make sure that you have power to the cradle and Axim while flashing, dont do upgrade on the Axim's battery alone. I think it took a while for the upgrade to finalize so I would suggest being patient. Out of curiosity, how long did you wait?

Hi PSYDSTUDENT

I did wait for the flash memory to be written. The problem that i can see is that once the Axim30 does a reboot, Activesync can't detect the presence of it upon the hard reboot. The PDA just sits there for .... gawd knows how long, waiting for the upload of the new firmware. It's eternally waiting and yes, the PDA sits in the cradle that is powered up via AC/DC powersupply. So nothing is being re-written or uploaded.

I might call up Dell Tech support and ask them what's going on. Though, i doubt they'd be able to help me.

Are you running any firewall software that may interfere with an Activesync connection? I have McAfee Internet Security Suite and before I had it set up properly, I had to disable Privacy Service in order for the Activesync connection to work.

I just tried updating to the new ROM for my Axim X30 Mid, and I kept getting the message -- "cannot continue because the AC adapter is not connected.". But my AC power connector is connected to my Axim, and the Axim is connected to my computer via the USB cable that's part of the crazy-looking Y-cable splitter that comes with the Axim X30 Mid in place of a cradle. I'll try again, but this seems strange.

That is very very strange...it took a while for me through read/write cycles but yours seems to have a bigger problem since it's not even *ATTEMPING* the upgrade. Better call Dell on this one.
