Absolutely! Pocket PC's are high maintanence machines. If you don't feed them right you lose all our data. The onl solution I can think of is to be sure to do a complete backup before you keep it uncharged for a long period of time.

The Power Button doesn't actually turn off the power. Actually, it just puts the Axim in "Suspend Mode". The Axim is ALWAYS "on" but in a limited capacity even when you press the power button to "turn it off". That is the way it's able to "wake up" and display alarms, apointments, etc.: it's never really off. And since it's in an "always on" state to some degree, it uses POWER although LESS power than when it's fully "awake".

The Axim needs constant power to maintain everything you have stored in RAM- which is what Main Memory is. RAM is volitile and flashable. Just like RAM on your PC that has the programs loaded into it, if you loose power on your PC everything loaded into RAM disappears and you have to reopen them, right?

The same basic principle applies to the Axim. Since you have the ACTUAL PROGRAMS saved and loading to RAM, if you loose all power on your Axim, you LOOSE ALL PROGRAMS that were stored in RAM. If you had something stored to ROM- which is similar to your PC's actual Hard Drive, you still have access to that.

The Axim can't survive without some sort of power source for long periods of time. If your main battery runs down completely, your Axim can only last for about 30 minutes before loosing all data stored in RAM.

Always plug it in to charge when you can or have a spare battery to use in order to keep your Axim from loosing all it's RAM data and doing a hard reset on you.

Yes like FallN said once the main battery goes dead the back up only lasts for roughly half an hour. I dont know how long the main battery will last on a charge though. JDH
