WiFi trouble... sigh

Hi, this is the first post, xcuse me for my english.
I have a x30 with wifi and bluetooth.
I want create a wlan with my pc, with a usb pen wifi;
PC
IP: 192.168.1.0
Subnet mask: 255.255.254.0
SSID: "privata"
Wlan: AdHoc

X30
IP: 192.168.1.1
Subnet mask 255.255.254.0
SSID: "privata"
Wlan: AdHoc

With Dell Lan Utility the ppc finds a "privata" but it doesn't connect to it, the result is "privata" available, but it goes further on!! i don't know what to do!!!
I have installed wififofum to disable "windows zero configuration" and the set up is ad hoc without wep on the channel 1.
I'm sure i'm making a mistake, but i don know that!

Using NeoHunt my X30 find the LAN, i suppose the lan is ok!!!
Why??
Help me!!!

Some people have found it necessary to start WiFi on the PPC before the PC in order to get them to associate. Others have never gotten it to work and I've never been able to figure out what could be the cause of these failures.

Looks great in theory. Out of interest, my are you using 255.255.254.0 instead of 255.255.255.0? It should not make a difference in your case, just curious. Are you planning on having 510 devices in the network?

Are you sure the pc IP is 192.168.1.0? I'm thinking thats usually the router and the pc would be 192.168.1.1 therefore the ppc should be 192.168.1.2 Just a thought

LOL - good spotting. Right - not a valid IP :)

Sometimes it's the little things :)

I have 255.255.255.254.0 because i have another device network, for modem ethernet...
However i changed ip to 192.168.1.1 and 1.2. Idem. The problem subsist, same situation of first... With Dell Lan Utility the ppc finds a "privata" but it doesn't connect to it, the result is "privata" available...

With my config, yesterday the ppc connected to pc, i didn't changed anything. I turned off the ppc and i have the same problem at first. I connected the ppc for, five times... but if i turn off wlan, it's very difficult that i succeed to connect another time the pc and ppc...

Have you updated your ROM to 05? I found it easier getting authenticated by my network after the upgrade.

Leave the subnets at 255.255.255.0.

Right - adding another device you would change the IP address. But don't change the subnet.

I am trying to understand this situation. You want to setup an Ad-Hoc network from the PDA to your PC. Do you have an access point in the house or no? Why can you not use that to connect them?

If there is no access point, what is the model of the USB PEN nic? Some Wi-Fi chipsets are NOT very compatible with Ad-Hoc networks.

If you JUST need to connect these two devices (PC & PDA) and they in turn do not have to do anything else realy exciting I would set it up as follows:

PC
IP: 192.168.2.1
SUB: 255.255.255.0
SSID: <whatever>
Ad-Hoc

PDA
IP: 192.168.2.2
SUB: 255.255.255.0
SSID: <same as PC>
Ad-Hoc

Now, if tha is set and they still do not talk, go into the PDA, and find the settings for network. You normally have the option of connecting the device to "The Internet" or Work". Change it to "Work" unless it is already that way.

If it is that way, you cn try changing it to the other, but it most likely will not work. At thispoint, make sure you post the make/model of the PC Wi-Fi NIC. :)
