Bluetooth Headset Connection Failed

Hello all. First of all, i'm new here so let me say a big *bravo* to everyone for this site, it's gr8!

I have an Axim X30 High, and yesterday i've bought a bluetooth headset, a Bluetrek G2. Although i can connect it to my mobile phone (a Sony-Ericsson T610), I cannot connect it to my Axim. I I do a new handsfree/headset setup, it detects my headset normaly, and it asks me for the passkey, 0000, and then is says setup completed and that a connection shortcut has been created. Everything's perfect till here.

When i press finish it is trying to connect to the headset, and after 30 mins it says connection failed. No matter what i try, always after 30mins it says connection failed.

Any ideas?
Thanx in advance!

I have experienced exactly the same thing with a Jabra 250 and a Plantronics M2500.

I would even add that trying a Service Discovery on those headsets bring a pop up saying 'no usable services for the device' (this is an approximate translation cos I am using a french ROM)

Trying to get help from my local Dell support phone was totally inefficient. They did not have the slightest idea of what is wrong. They don't even have a headset at end to perform a test !!!

Is it possible for successful and unsuccessful users of BT Headset Profile to post to this thread the following information : version of Windows / version of BT / brand of headset

In my case it is :

4.21.1088 (build 14260.2.0.2) / WIDCOMM BT-PPC 1.5.0.0801 / Jabra 250 and Plantronics M2500

May be if we can gather enough data to prove that this is not the problem of a couple of users, then Dell will look seriously to the case and propose a fix to the bug.

Thanks for your attention

I have a Jabra BT250 and it connect without issue with my X30H. This is truly perplexing because mine connected the first time without a hitch.

Go into you Bluetooth Settings and make sure that "All Devices" is checked so that all devices can be paired with it. Then go into Bluetooth Manager and begin the pairing process. Make sure that your headset is in pairing mode and enter the password when prompted.

Good luck. :)

And you're all aware that there is a bluetooth stack that has been used with success on Axims by Broadcomm? There is a thread in the X50 forums that might be worth examining. If all else fails, try that bluetooth stack!

Thanks for your post, but pairing is not the problem as explicitly explained in gurth4ng's message.
In his case and in mine, activating the 'New Headset' icon brings up a list of equipment restricted to headsets (for example even though my cell phone or my BT GPS are in the vicinity, they do not appear in the list of devices for which the service is available). When a headset is selected for the very first time, the pairing process is started, and there is a prompt to enter the PIN, then a shortcut for the headset is created in the connections list.

However, clicking on the shortcut just bring up a pop up saying 'Connecting' and then finally 'Connection failed. Check blablabla'.

Displaying the list of paired devices confirms that the headset is paired.
Clicking on the icon 'Service Discovery' and selecting the headset triggers after a while an error message saying 'No suitable / usable services'.

It seems that AXIM 30 is able :
- to pair with my headsets as well as gurth4ng's one,
- to recognize them as headsets,
but is not able to activate the service they advertise.

Could you please indicates your version of OS and BT stack ?

Thanks

Could you please be more explicit on the thread ?

Just for information I am using Broadcomm's stack v1.5.0 i.e. the one natively embedded in AXIM's ROM. So you are may be talking about an earlier version of Broadcomm, or from another provider such as Bluesoleil ?

Thanks Choirguy

I did already try this upgrade one week ago. It did not work on my Axim 30. Not only my headset problem was not solved, but the sound was lost (the volume slider was permanently reset to 0). I made a hard reset to get rid of the problem.
I have read in another forum that someone has had exactly the same problem with an iPAQ.

MY ADVICE : BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THIS UNOFFICIAL BROADCOMM UPGRADE (NOT TO SAY DON'T USE IT WITH AN AXIM 30)

I tried to use the broadcomm upgrade as well, but exactly as papouic said it didnt solve the problem, and it killed my sound.. Thank god i've made a backup ;)
I've emailed BlueTrek about the problem, it took them more than 2 weeks to answer and they finally said that they dont provide technical support for PDAs and send me the connection instractions for pairing with a mobile phone..!
Stupid company :p

Here's my versions:
Axim X30 624
4.21.1088 (build 14260) / WIDCOMM BT-PPC 1.5.0.0801 / Plantronics M3000
The Axim recognizes the headset, but after putting in the passkey, the response is that it could not pair. The headset works fine on my Motorola phone, so I know that isn't the problem. Searched Dell's forums, and there's no useful information there.

I have made a test with my Windows XP PC on which I have installed an USB BT adapter (from Aiptek) as well as BT Software from Widcomm version 4.0.1.700 i.e. BT software from the same company as the one embarked in AXIM 30, but a later version.
I had no problem to use my headsets once I have started the included service 'audio gateway'.

My conclusion : either the version (1.5.0.0801) of BT software provided with AXIM 30 does not contain the 'audio gateway' service, or this service is not started / misconfigured.

My last hope is that someone from Dell attending this forum, will have the time to take a look at the problem, pinpoint the problem, and push a correction into the next ROM update release.

I have exactly the same problem. I am trying to connect a Nokia HS-26W headset to my X30. I also tried a Plantronics 30 headset with the same problem.

In each case, x30 found the headset with no problem, and they are paired, but it would not connect. It shows "connecting" for maybe 15-20 sec and the "connection failed". If you try to explore the service, it shows "The device dos not offer any usable services. Please enable any desired services on that device or choose another one."

Any help would be appreciated.

I updated the ROM to A6 and it solved my problem! My previous version was A5. Here is the address to the new ROM:
