My X30h Keeps Disconnecting from Wifi

Hi everyone,

I may be a noob here, but I have just under 5000 posts on howardforums, and I'm an admin of cellphones.ca, etc., etc., so I know what I'm doin' here. ;)

I just got a X30, and I got it set up ok with my D-Link DI-524 802.11g Router. I'm using WEP encryption, but i've tried everything from open to WPA-PSK. The Dell connects regardless.

After being connected for a few minutes, my Dell automatically goes and jumps on to my neighbour's non-encrypted Apple Airport, at about half signal strength, which disconnects MSN messenger & confines me to a slow Telus DSL Lite connection, which is really annoying. In another 2 minutes or so, it hops back on to my network.

I've tried disabling and enabling power managment & the odyssey client. Didn't change a thing.

I've tried removing all the settings in the "wireless cards" setup... didn't do anything either.

I've got the newest ROM on my Axim (A05) and the newest flash on my router.

Any advice on how to stop this?

Thanks a lot.

Try 'Start >Settings [Connections tab] > Network Cards' - Uncheck the option to 'Automatically connect to non-prefered networks'

Actually, the best place for this thread is Wireless Communications, so I'll just leave it be for now. :)

It seems you are not the only one having problems with that particular router. See this
thread for more details. Is it possible to try connecting with a different router to see if the problems persist?

BTW, welcome to Aximsite!

i think i read in another thread that if both of the routers are on the same channel it may confuse your axim or something. so i think you should try changing the channel of your router if they are both the same.

Ya, I'm guessing that's the problem as I don't recall having any trouble using it at work.

I got a super good deal on that router, too, $39 CDN, and I already sent in the MIR. D'Oh!

I'll have to convince the manager to let me swap it for a Linksys. Hopefully he'll take it even without the UPC.

Oh BTW, everyone, I've tried changing every singe setting with regards to the wifi connection. Nothing helps.

How did you manage to return the Dlink with the UPC code removed? ;)
