3 desktops + 1 axim all networked on the same DSL connection??

well, last i posted a month or so ago and had bought the axim in place of buying a new desktop. since then ive talked myself into the new dell dimension 3000 desktop im typing from right now. guess the axim inspired me :)

anyway, my dads computer is hooked up to comcast dsl in the next room. i have my desktop hooked up but am currently using aol 9.0 as it was free with my purchase and easier than answering this question on my own. my sisters room is right next to mine.

so basically im trying to see if there is a way that they can all be hooked up to the same internet connection and if i can use my axim on it as well. is this possible??? what additional hardware would i need and what would i hook to what????

forgive the dumb question, im just new to all of this. i just learned how to use my car reader last week. thanks to all that suggested it in my first post.....those things are magic for transfering files.

can anybody help me with my wireless network????????????

You need a wireless broadband router to share your Comcast DSL connection among all the PC's & Axim. I' recommend the D-Link DI-624 broadband wireless router.

You also need 2 wireless cards (PCI or USB), one for your PC, & one for your sister's machine.

One last thing. The router will obviously go in your Dad's office/room. He will use an ethernet cable to plug directly into router. He will not need a wireless card.

Unless you've got an X30 Low, in which case you'll also need a WiFi SD Card.

and then once you get your hardware set up you may want to check back in with us at AximSite to get your router set up so that no one (like me) can steal your precious broadband connecion.

I'll definitly do that. but wouldnt any potential broadband connection thiefs need to be inside my house to steal from me??? doesnt the wireless router have a limited range???

Noooooo . . . He's right, take the steps to lock it down. Same concept as someone 2 houses down locking into your cordless telephone call.

Definitely lock it down. I often connect to unsecured Access Points while out and about with my Axim. Not intentionally, and I disconnect if I do, but there are so many out there that are "open access". Don't let yours one . . .
