Hi,

When I haven't used my X30 for a while and the battery has gone completely flat, I lose the navigation program that's been loaded on and I keep having to reload it. Is this normal?

Yes, you need to charge it regularly or the X30 will undergo what is refered to as a hard reset which takes it the a default state with none of the data or programs that you loaded onto it being there.

well the main memory needs power to remember... when that runs out so does the memory. Its a common feature on pdas from psions, through palms and windows mobile devices. Wm5 on the new pdas should solve it. But that won't help x30 users (another story)

I use sprite backup to automatically backup my axim every night. If it does go flat I can charge for a few mins and restore everything from the backup file.

If you have the self discipline you can use the built in backup app for the same purpose
