Headset for Skype?
I am going to Amsterdam in March and would like to use skype to call home. Should I get a simple pair of headphones and use the mic to talk, or is there a way to use a "headset" type of deal where I can hear/talk with the same unit?

Thanks-

If you want to use a headset, you will need a BT (if you have it) one since the audio jack on the X30 only supports output (unlike in the X50/X51 series). The easiest/cheapest way to go would be to use regular headphones with the built-in mic.

If you really want a headset, other than bluetooth, there is one on this page. I haven't tried it, I find simply using a standard headphone and the internal mic to work just fine. Some people say they just hold the speaker (d-pad) to their ear (axim upsidedown so mic is near their mouth) and that reduces or eliminates feedback, if you don't mind looking a little strange.

Opps, I just noticed this was in the X30 forum, so I guess what Gigi said is it.

Here is something that might work with the X30, specially if you want to listen to music while not talking on Skype, but it also uses bluetooth.

Any idea where I can get an earpiece-only type of headphone? Like the old-school 1-headphone deal they used to use with transistor radios (except not nearly as cheesy looking)? I have a jabra (sp?) earpiece for my old cell phone that would git, however it has a mic as well (obviously) and I wonder if that would impair the usefullness of the earphone.

I suppose I could just get a cheap pair of earbud-style headphones....I just realized that. If I needed to I suppose i could also cut one off? Then I can look like CIA!

I'm looking for a headphone for audio input/output. But I see the headset with mic comes with 2 jack. So how can it fit into the x50 jack ? Or are there some specific headsets that I need to put ? Where can I buy it ? Or some adapters for 2 into 1 ?

Thanks.

You need to get an adapter for your regular headset or a special headset designed for the X50/X51 series:

Are these standard parts ? Or specific to Dell x50 ? If standard, I can just go to a shop and purchase any 2 to 1 adapter and it will work ?

These are specific to the X50/X51 series; however, you may be able to use the accessories from other PDAs (e.g., Toshiba I think) as long as they have the same input/output jack (i.e., 4 rings instead of the standard 3).

Yes, unless you get a BT headset.

So, do you think, it could be working standart headset with mono 3,5mm jack? And how I read, is it really true, x51 has even audio-in? It's a bit disapointed, I havent seen any about it in dell spec.

It's true it has an audio in, but it requires a special headset to take advantage of it. Dell and Seidio sell these. Seidio and Pc-mobile also sell adapters for you to use your own headphones/mic.
