Using X30 with X3 foldable keyboard- tried everything, doesn't work!
Hi folks,
I have gotten this to work in the past, and I seem to remember it had something to do with doing everything in a perfect order (which is not the order they suggest doing in the shoddy manual).
Stats:
Dell Axim X30
ROM A06
Dell Foldable Keyboard X3 (other sites said they are perfectly compatible)
Most recent activesync
Charge ~90%
I tried several different permutations of installing and uninstalling and reinstalling. They keyboard seems to be detected by the device (the "foldable keyboard" program responds by automatically enabling the device when connected, and disabling when not connected), but no letters when I type! I know I've made it work in the past, but I can't rememember how. Any idea how to make it work? Thanks!
Jon
Do you by chance also have the Belkin Thumbboard driver application installed as well? If so, the drivers don't play with each other nicely.
For reference's sake, what are your 1) Foldable Keyboard part number and 2) its driver's version? Mine are:
1) Part #: D2704, Model #: G7L1-001
2) G7L1 V2.01 (build 0524)

I'm embarrased to say that I do not know how to select it as the input device. Do you mean selecting it at the bottom right of the screen? I have "keyboard" selected, but I believe that is the on-screen keyboard.
I have the D2704 G7L1-001, V 2.01, build 0524 as well.
I don't have the belkin or any other keyboard device.
I thought I would give the posting a bump as I have had the same problems as Lopedog777 with the same D2704 Foldable Keyboard/x30 combination.
When the X30 is connected to the keyboard the checkbox in the keyboard driver menu checks and the Axim beeps seeming to indicate that the Axim is connected to the Keyboard. However, when you try to type with any application or use the Test Box area in the driver menu, nothing happens.
I have loaded and unloaded both the Ver.2.00 driver from the keyboard CD and the Ver 2.01 downloaded from Dell and tried various combinations of loading, unloading and soft starts. It does the same thing each time. Check-Beep-Nada.
I bought the X30 used but it has worked fine before and after I did a hard restart to wipe it. (I did the hard restart before I bought the keyboard. Every other aspect of the X30 has been fine and has worked flawlessly.)
The specs are:
Axim x30 624 Mhz
ROM Ver. A06
64MB Ram
64MB Rom
Windows 2003 SE Ver 4.21.1088 Build 14260.2.02
Keyboard D2704 Mod# G7L1-001 Rev. A00
I have done many google and aximsite searches and this thread is the closest I have found to even answering the problem. Any input would be greatly appreciated!
anything you might be able to suggest based on the stats?
I haven't had any problems with my foldable keyboard (yet), so I can't say I can suggest much other than that the keyboard is dead. :(

well- it can't be dead if two people have had the same experience of the program responding properly, but not being able to register keystrokes. again- i know that i got it to work before somehow after having this same problem. hmmm...
Out of curiosity, how long has it been since you last used the D2704 keyboard with the x30? Has any significant change been made to any software or hardware that you are aware of? I was wondering if such changes could be the source of the problem. Maybe I have made changes similar to your own.
xtremegene,
To the best of my knowledge there has not been a Belkin keypad attached to my x30. I ran a couple of registry programs and did not find any evidence of any Belkin drivers in the registry, nor did I find any Belkin programs in the Remove Programs list. When I looked in both of those places I DID however find the Dell drivers.
