Printing text files to Parallel and USB Printers
I regularly need to print 80-column text files to a number of older parallel printers at client locations. I've tried a Bluetooth adaptor (BT-0260 - won't pair or display any services - tried alternate BT stack versions, no luck) and a battery-powered IR to parallel adaptor (garbled characters), but could not get either to work. I have PrintBoy, PrintPocketCE, and HP mobile printing, and will try the other commercial solutions, but need to know if anyone has succesfully used a bluetooth or IR-to-parallel adaptor.
The files I print are simple, text-based 80-column reports currently produced on an Axim X30 High and then sent to my laptop via BT for printing. Graphics output or printing Word or Web documents would be nice, but is absolutely not necessary if I can make the text files work. The printers at the sites are mostly older HP Laserjets, Canon BJ's, and some Epsons, but all have parallel interfaces and are DOS compatible. I'd prefer to print the files on these printers if possible, to keep my travel gear compact (my equipment must be kept on my person at all times at these sites).
If there is a workable solution (IR, Bluetooth, WIFI) involving a portable print server, more suitable BT or IR adaptor, or just finding a Bluetooth-equipped printer and carrying that around in a backpack, I'd be very appreciative for any suggestions. i.e. - Has anyone used an HP Deskjet 350/450 via IR/BT?
Thanks!
