wifi connection problem

I'm currently travelling around various hotels and whilst i had no problem logging on at this Best Western one i have found it impossible to connect at other chains. My x30 does think it is connected and i do get an ip address assigned, i just can't get web access.

can anyone sugsest what might be wrong? I did wonder whether it might be because they are only offering 805.g but if so would i get an ip address ?

it's not because they are using encoding.

thanks,

peter

The fact that it worked at one place confirms the Axim is OK. I suppose some chains might not include b mode but it would surprise me if many do and you probably wouldn't get an IP. Many networks require thatt you agree to their terms of service. This usually is done in through the web browser and in my experience you sometimes need to refresh the page once or twice to get past your home page.

Sometimes the login page is a pop up or a java or something like that.

A different browser might help, but I have found with a few places that no matter what you try you just can't get to the login page.

thanks box, i might try installing another browser.
i did also wonder if you only got somewhere if it was the hotel's own website that was your point of entry but you would think they would tell you that.

thanks,

peter

I have had the same issue from time to time. my ax would not connect but on my laptop it would take me to the hotel's portal. So I think their portal doesn't know how to "talk" to the mobile addition of the software.

That does sound like the answer. Perhaps the suggestion of a different browser is worth a try.

Thanks to all for your replies,

Peter

I just had this problem again but, at least for this hotel, I could overcome it by selecting view layout desktop.
