Tell me you opinion on Screen Protectors, Please !!
I've read alot of posts on this forum, as well as others, regarding screen protectors. In fact, this site has write up about a brand on the homepage. I'm now an Axim owner who crossed over from Palm. I purchased protectors for my Palm and hated them for many reasons.

1. They were to hard to apply to the screen.
2. They made the screen look hazy and distorted.
3. They collected every dust particle in the air, and were not
easy to clean.

I'm wanting to purchase some type of protector for my Axim. However, I don't want to buy any and end up in the same situation as before.

What is a brand of protectors that will keep the integidy, color, and nice appearance of the screen ? I guess i'll just have to keep practicing the actual application part of it.

Your input would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

papowell

I'm a believer. Not long after I got my Axim somehow, while I was carrying it in the leather OEM case from Dell, a corner of the spare battery must have gotten gouged into my screen leaving a fair sized "divot". Didn't affect the usability at all and when the background color is light its barely noticeable. But its still there and if I trace the stylus over it you know its there. It's almost out of warranty now and as soon as it is I'm going to PDA parts and get the stuff to repair it. Ever since I've kept a screen saver on it. I just cut 'em out of sheet protector covers for documents. They work great. I was at Atlanta for a motorsports event about three weeks ago and was carrying my Axim in my pocket to keep track of event times etc. By the end of the weekend the screen saver that I started with was a mess! Glad it wasn't the screen. I also use letter recognizer most of the time and I think it would have permannetly marred the screen in the three input areas by now. I know by the time I change the screen saver out its pretty heavily scratched. I figure its just another layer of protection. Others haven't seemed to have any problems. "You pays your money and ya' takes your chances!"

Do a search of the forum to find many suggestions for screen protectors. I use the Brando. Very nice. A protector is an absolute necessity in my opinion.

I prefer the ClearTouch from BoxWave. Easy to put on and they are reusable and washable.

Screen protectors - you gotta use them. Cheap protection but don't fall for the cheap protectors. I use WriteShield and they are excellent.

I used Boxwave and i hated them. It made my screen look clouded and dusty. Looks much better with the protector off.

I've got a Brando one, it's beautiful - slightly matt which makes for a nicer writing surface and takes the edge off reflections. That said, it was a pain to put on... worth it IMO and I feel i can give my screen much more abuse now without any problems.

Oh, just to add to that, people report that they have had no problems using their Brando screen protector for up to a year - these things are seriously durable, and having used this one for a couple of weeks now I can well believe that. As i said, it's a pain to put on, but if you only have to do it once per year or less then I'm really not complaining.

There is a good review of the different screen protectors for your AXIM at http://www.brighthand.com/article/Protect_Your_Screen if you want to check it out.

The best ones in this review are Boswave in 1st and WriteSHIELD in 2nd.

Brando, Boxwave, and Writeshield are probably the best. I've used Brando and Boxwave (on different PPCs) and like them both. In general, they provide some level of protection to the screen- which would you rather scratch, a $10 piece of plastic or your screen which will cost ~$140 to replace? The three brands I mention give a slight frosted appearance to the screen which does cut down on glare. I personally do not see any appreciable deterioration in the quality of the screen image but some people (and I suspect aviationwiz falls in this group) simply don't like the look or feel created by the protectors. I guess you won't know if you fall in this category until you actually try one.

I am 100% satisfied with the Dell screen protectors. I bought a pack of 10 with my Axim in February and I am still on the first one. It causes not frosting or dimming of the screen. They are easy to apply if you have the instructions (available on Aximsite - Dell do not include any) and are very easy to remove clean and put back but this is seldom necessary. I really am not aware that it is there unless I look at the slightly turned up corners. There are absolutely no problems with tapping, holding or writing on the screen.

Fellowes works well for me
In my humble opione you are rollign the dice when you don't use a protector. I have been happy with the Fellowes one (probably the cheepest) and they last months for my use.

I didn't used to use screen protectors. I got some light scraches and a couple of times frantically scrubbed ink off the screens. Then I bought the cheapest at the local computer store, iConcepts. They were a pain to install. Bubles and a little foggy. I scratched the protector trying to get the bubles out. They protected the screen but looked bad. I read a recommendation for Brando and ordered it. I didn't realize I was only getting one! But I love it. It was much easier to install and it is an excelent fit. No bubles or creases. I would purchase again.
