Rhinoskin case
Ok, if i am going to be going to throw the x30 in my backpack, i should get the rhinoskin instead of using the dell slip case? Is there really that much of a protection difference? I am just still not sure whether to get the rhinoskin because 3/4 of the time the axim will be at home with me in no danger. Is it really worth the $35 if im only going to have the axim in my backpack for a fraction of the time? Thanks in advance.

P.S. My budget is extremely tight. I need to salvage any dough I can.

I have the Rhinoskin aluminum case and I throw it in my camel back and ride to work and love it. It is nicer then the Dell standard one because The Ax stays in better. The Ax would slide out on bumpy trails. You could always wrap a rubber band around it to hold it in if that's an issue. I also have a Belkin flip leather case that works just fine also, but if I were throwing my pack around a lot I'd probably go with the Rhino.
Check here for price comparison on the case. I don't have that one, but you can take a look.
Good luck.

^^Thanks for the quick reply. Yeah, i probably will go withthe rhino. What does neoprene feel like?

Thanks again,
jcll2002

P.S. Its kinda a pain in the butt that i have to get a different shipper but I can argue with the price. Its $15 cheaper than what dell charges!

Having a metal Rhinoskin is like having premium collision insurance for your Axim. Accidents do happen and if one happens to you, it would make you feel a helluvalot better if your Ax was inside a solid Rhinoskin case.

Just last week while I was in the staircase of my building checking to see if I could still detect my WiFi network, I slipped and my Axim fell down two floors. It came down screen up and thanx to the Rhinoskin titanium case it was in, it was still turned on and lying as if nothing happened. I doubt that this would be the case with any other case ... ;-)

The neoprene is on the inside and is pretty soft. I'm referring to the Rhino, not the one on the link, I haven't tried that one, but may be worth a shot to save a few $$. It doesn't look like that one has any slots for extra SD cards. That wouldn't bother me though. You will also need to remove the Ax to connect to a cradle, and it is very snug in the Rhono, also you won't be able to use an extended power battery that sticks out the back of the Ax.

I have an off-brand rhinoskin case, and i must say that i would trust my regular dell case more. If has alot more padding, and unless something extremly sharp attacked my ax, the regular case would do just fine. Not only that, but drop them both, with the rhinoskin, the case could come open, and your screen could break. There is no way that the default case would let your screen be exposed. I know it is not "as tough" but i dont feel that my aluminum case is "tough enough" to be held on such a high pedastool.

Thanks for the replies guys. Does the rhinoskin damage the x30 when removing it? Does it chip the paint?

THanks again,

With the X5, one of the rubber feet of the Axim peel off a bit of the velvet cover of the Rhinoskin titanium case and eventually one of the rubber feet fell off from repeatedly removing and inserting the Axim into the case. I didn't bother putting it back on since it works much better with one of the feet off ...

I already got the Rhinoskin alu case for the X30 but don't have the new Axim yet, so I can't comment on whether the same problem could occur there or not. I wouldn't worry about the paint though since the case is covered with velvet on the inside almost everywhere except the two SD holders.

Have you tried Tech for Less? I bought the Rhinoskin case for my Axim X30 for around $14. It was an out-of-box special, but it was flawless when received--no smudges, loose hinges, etc. Only difference from a new one was that the box was generic. Well-packaged, too.

Here's the link: http://www.techforless.com/cgi-bin/tech4less

They seem to be out of them right now, but this is a site worth checking from time to time.
