RhinoSkin Aluminum Case: Belt Clip Flaw
There's a major flaw in the design of the RhinoSkin Aluminum Hard Case belt clip that can cause your Axim to fall off your belt!

The litte "screw" that attaches to the back holding the belt clip to the Axim, even when tightened as tight as possible, can unscrew itself easily.

I was just walking when my Axim just fell off my belt. The actual belt clip and screw were still attached to my hip yet my Axim, still in the case, crashed to the hard pavement.

The case was dinged and scratched but so far my Axim is operating fine.

I just wanted to give people a bit of a "heads up" to double check the screw in the back of the case or not to use the "belt clip" at all.

BTW: has this ever happened anyone else?

Yes; it has happened to me several times. Tightening the screw with plyers seems to help but we shouldn't need to do that. Anther reason I am glad I paid for 3 yrs warantee W/ accidental damage.people here talk about buying a new one every year but I can't afford that, nor can I afford to pay for it to be fixed. Also if I decide to sell it the warantee will go with it.

Holy cow! You knew about this?

I've had my RhinoSkin hard case for months. I had never used the belt clip before yesterday. I either carried it in my hand or put it in my bag... and then the unthinkable happened... it spontaneously detached from my hip!!

Are you implying that I should get a new RhinoSkin Aluminum hard case every year because mine will spontantously eject from my waist on a regular basis and it will cause massive dents to the hard case?

No thank you. I'd rather buy a case that doesn't decide, of it's own volition, to hurdle itself toward hard concrete.

what if you put a little bit of strong strength glue in the hole b4 you screw in the clip?..that should hold it quite well..

Keep the loctite away from plastic parts. It will dissolve plastic.

Lost X3i temporarily due to this
Walked from office to parking lot across the street, got in my truck, and drove home. I had the X3 on my belt when I walked out the door, but it was gone when I got home--all I had was a belt clip with a screw.

Fortunatly, a co-worker found the X3 in the grass and I got it back the next day. I then re-applied the screw with pliers and some thred-lok from Lowe's to keep the #&*@!% thing in.

RhinoSkin--THIS IS A MAJOR FLAW! Although the case protected the X3 from damage when it fell, it shouldn't be able to commit PDA-icide. Try a lockwasher, or a different post attachment design, but if it jumps again (and I don't loose it permanently), I'll be swithcing to the stupid Dell case while I look for something else. (or a welding shop).

When did you guys get your cases? The one I got with my X30 came with a nylon washer, and I haven't had any problems with it coming unscrewed. This was mentioned in the rhinoskin review Chris did: http://www.aximsite.com/reviews/inde...d=157&catid=15

Nylon washer isn't sufficient
Yes, I have a nylon washer also--they should have included a LOCK washer, not a nylon washer. The idea (I think) was that when you tighten the screw down, the torque would compress the washer and it would prevent the screw from un-screwing. Wrong....really wrong. I realize that the idea was to be able to remove the post when you wanted, but I need it to be when I want, not when it decides to self-remove.

I use the IProductsHolster. I really Like it. I had the same problem with the Rhinoskin case with my Tungsten E. Now no problems

You may be able to glew on that little screw onto the back o the case, but at times this can be rather annoying, too. If you want to put the Axim inside the case onto a table in order to do some reading, normally you would want to remove the screw before doing this.

I recieved my Rhinoskin yesterday and this morning I was taking my Axim off my belt clip and I noticed when I pulled up the screw was in the clip and my Axim was in my hand. I got lucky catching it in time before it fell off. What has been the solution to the problem? ANY?
