Formatting SD Card
Do most of the SD cards come pre formatted, if not is there a way to do it with the Axim X30mid?

Yes they do. I've never had to format an SD card. There are some free utilities that can do this, and I know Pocket Mechanic by Anton Tomov does this as well.

Additionally, if you have an SD card reader for your PC, you can right click on the drive and choose format, just like you would a Diskette.

I just formatted mine using the XP Format Utility via My SD Card Reader. It worked fine, I choose FAT 32 for my file system. I think I'm going to use Pocket Mechanic as it gives you the ability to specify customized cluster sizes, which saves space.

No compatibility issue with fat32?
I thought fat16 was mandatory with memory cards... Didn't have the opportunity to test though.

You can try FAT 32, but from what I've read, FAT16 seems to be the preferred file system for SD Cards.
