USB Hard drive to X30 - Possible?

Hey guys, I'm new at this forum and i'll probably have the X30 High in a few weeks.

I would like to know if it's possible to connect an external hard drive through a USB port to the Axim X30 (Seems like a faster, much more efficient solution than any SD card)

I was thinking of this one -->
External Hard Drive

Will it work? Had anyone here had any experience with this kind of thing? How fast will it be?

It won't work. Both it and the PPC are USB devices. One of the two must be a host before you can connect them. There are CF cards that add USB ports that will turn a PPC into a host but it will not work on the X3 or X30.

After I posted the above, I saw this thread which discusses the options for connecting an extenal drive to the PPC.

As my first post, i'd like to start off by saying that this is a kick-butt site. I've been lurking here since mid-june and ordered my X30 high on the 23rd---The WOD is indeed a torturous thing.

Anyways, on to my thread contribution:

Is Wi-Fi okay?

What about an Ipod?

If you got the 20 gig I-Pod and used 1/2 for Music and the other 1/2 for pocket PC programs, that could be cool.

Not sure if it works but you can connect them together with Pocketster Pro.

oops I see now that you need a USB HOST controler to use that.

The Tosheba e800 does I assume the Axim does not. You can add one to a PDA with a CF slot, but the X30 doesn't have one of those.

So x5 can use external drive with cf adaptor. That way one can have portable music/video jukebox.

I think the new Asus A730 has a USB connection and can server as a USB Host device. So you might actually get to use an external hdd on it....

They have...

The first one I saw was $189 and I just bought one for $67 (it arrived today)

...and like all computer equipment, they will continue to go down especially now that the 1gig cards are on the market.

you could try an terapin mine out its 10 gig has a pcimia slot so you could hook up wifi and maybe bluetooth up to it. Runs on 4 double as lasts a few hours. It runs linux. Also it has a usb host so you could probly plug your pda right into it. Heres the url http://www.terapintech.com/spec_mine.html
