I placed an order for my Axim X30 yesterday and am now in the process of purchasing accessories (screen protectors, case, battery, etc.) in preparation for my first trip with my Axim.
I'm confused about some of the accessories I've seen. I will be traveling with my Axim for several weeks at a time and, obviously, need to recharge. I've seen combination sync/charge cables but all I need is a charge. I won't have access to my home computer to sync with while on the road.
Can I use a travel cable, car charger, etc. to strictly charge? Or do you have to sync and charge at the same time?
What about backing up? Can I back up to a card?
How do you travel with your Axim?

you should get at least one more battery for trip, prefer mugen 2000 (check out MEF38)
the cradle is a nice option for 312 version, can charge extra battery, can run on 4.5V car charger (note, the cradle requires up to 1500mA power), you need an elastic band to hold the battery on the cradle if you charge in car
you can operate and charge at the same time, but notice what I wrote above
about backing up, it's suggested to backup your phonebook, schedule (my favorites, phonebooks are backed up automatically when sync'ing once outlook installed), and copy a backup to your pc, in case something amiss happens
my suggestion:
USB charging sync cable is okay, just make sure the wireless is not turned on when plugging in pc (because USB port can provide up to 500mA current, turning on wireless will exceed the current limit
charging cradle (included with 624 version, suggested for 312 version), it's a big help if you have extra battery
couple of extra batteries (consider that, under extreme condition, the standard battery only run up to 2 hours with wifi on)
case, but be aware that, some cases may not be fit with extra capacity battery (including mugen 2000)
screen sticker (actually, ipaq sticker is 100% fit)
audio connection to your car stereo or headphone (if you'd like to run it as mp3/ogg player)
I am satisfied with my axim 312 wireless ver
and play oggs through LAN (nice audio quality, at least like portable CD player)
reading WAP, and listening radios over GPRS
