I didn't but I do not think that style of earbud is very comfortable. Keep the suggestions coming though.

Another vote for the Sony MDR-EX51LP. I use them and they sound great. Got them at Amazon for $30.

I've got a pair of the Fontopia 51s coming from Ebay (new). I paid $19 +$5 for shipping.

I've been using Koss "The Plug" phones for a few years. When you substitute the included cushions with foam earplugs you put a hole through with a wire hanger that you heated on the stove, they sound great. Unfortunately, the diameter of the drivers (the hard plastic part of the phones) makes them hard to get in my ear, hence trying out the Sony Fontopias.

I highly recommend canal-phones (the kind that go in your ear canal) for the Axims, which have underpowered audio output unless using 3rd party media players with equalizers.

Does the impedance rating of headphones make much of a difference in volume output?

I noticed on the TDK website that the impedance rating of the CP100 is 16 ohms vs the BP100 which is rated at 32 ohms.

I know that with home stereo equipment you need a more powerful amp to drive 4 ohm speakers than 8 ohm speakers.

good place for budding audiophile.

edit: duh, he wanted earbuds.
from what I can gather from various hi-fi forums, audio technica's CM5 is good.

Philips H215 under $12 and these are delivering great sound quality and little if any extraneous noises.....

I'm going to be trying out the mini-buds from Boxwave because of the built-in wind up tool. I mostly listen to mp3's on the subway and I only have 20 minutes to listen, and I loathe spending 2 minutes of that to unravel my earbuds each time. In my case convenience is going to win out over sound quality.

I like my MX250s by Sennheiser. They're about 20-25 bucks and they have a volume control. The only thing is the cord appears to be shorter than the average, which I like but you may not for bike riding.

Hi, Falser, that looks pretty cool. I hate unraveling as well, and the earbuds I have are now falling apart. I would like to get something more durable, but stows away conveniently.

Thanks for the info!

I can sleep on my side with the MDR-EX51LP's in. The sound is good, and comfort is great.
