Nextel Falcon i730 and Axim X30H

Does anyone know if there is a way to use the GPS enabled Falcon and the Axim x30?

Preferably via BlueTooth...

There are no iDEN phones with Bluetooth, and I don't think the upcoming i930 has Bluetooth either. Stupid Motorola.

The only way you can do it is buy the (overpriced) cable from SupplyNet. Go into your menu, GPS, NEMA OUT. Note this will drain your battery, so turn it off when you don't need it, or use a car charger. iDEN phones are the only ones I know of that can be used as an outboard GPS receiver. If you're using it to navigate using mapopolis or something, please let me know how well it works... I have an i90 and just waiting for the i860!!

As far as I know! ... I know it works on a PC with from an i830.

Menu -> GPS -> NMEA OUT "on"

... you might even get a free data cable depending on if your phone needs to be updated!

Hello, new guy here. I am awaiting the arrival of my X30 from Dell. One of the things I would like to use the X30 for is with a GPS. From what I read above it sounds like I can just use my Nextel i730 as a receiver. Would this be the cable to use to hook that up ?

Being new this is the first I have heard of using the GPS as a receiver. Is this a preferred way of using GPS and what are the drawbacks?

Thanks

Dave

I myself have been trying to find out the specs of the Motorola GPS units, but I've been given blank stares and confusion from the other end. As far as I know, the Motorola iDEN units use a version of the SiRF chipset. How accurate the GPS is and how it handles tricky situations like urban canyons is not known. I don't think anyone has done a test with a cell phone before, because I know of no other cell phones other than iDENs that output the GPS stream.. all other cell phones with GPS are limited to use within the cell phone with Java apps, etc.

I'm gona keep my eye on this. I have a Motorola i530 with the GPS and if I could use it with my Ax, that would be AWESOME... I know you can use the i530 with laptops, so I don't see how a PPC would be much different...

Does anyone know if Microsoft Streets works with GPS? Do I need to purchase separate GPS software?
