Dell Brand GPS
I noticed that DELL is now offering a DELL GPS kit on there site, with bluetooth, car adapter and a mount for $249.

They dont say what type of battery life it has, what type of chipset it has, the recharge time, they dont say squat about it!

I assume its just a rebranded pharos or something.

Does anyone have this GPS? Does it work good, what are the power cables like? Whats the range on the bluetooth? Whats the battery life like?

Thanks,
Andrew

I dont have that GPS, but i have Belkin Bluetooth GPS...it was 160 shipped with charger, car charger and software. it takes a few hours to charge...2-4 maybe and get 10 hours battery life. the car adapter is helpful although the battery life is amazing...i would assume that the Dell would be similiar...and the range with the Axim to the Belkin GPS is 10 meters (33 feet)

Andrew,

The Dell GPS is a rebranded Globalsat BT308/309 it come with an OEM version of Intellinav 1.1. GpsPasSion has a review of the Globalsat that tells you all the stats, like sensitivity, battery life, charge time, size, weight, etc. There is also a review on this site short on details but has conclusions drawn from a user perspective.

I have the Dell GPS kit. I can not compare it it other GPS units because this is the only one I have tried.
The battery life is pretty good. I went on a 4 hour trip and had no problems with the battery. I saw a review here http://www.bargainpda.com/default.asp?newsID=2156 that said it can last to just short of 8 hours.

Just got my Dell GPS kit yesterday. Charged it up and actually ended up using it in an emergency (needed to get to the hospital to see my fiancee's grandfather, but didn't know where that hospital was).

The unit works great. When you launch the software on the handheld, it turns on BT, finds the GPS (which you tap to select in the BT manager's list of available devices), and begins talking to it.

Later that night, I was successful in getting it to talk to my laptop via BT as well. You need to read the directions on how to make it manually partner with the device. The passkey you'll need is printed in the directions.

All in all, it works fine, and every bit as fast and accurate as my Deluo mouse GPS was when interfaced with my old X5.

One more thing - the Dell unit has a connector on the side that is presumably for an external antenna, though the instructions don't acknowledge its existence.

Could you provide a link to where you purchased that? All I can find on their site is something for $399.99!
Thanks.
