Bluetooth or Reg GPS?
This is a great site.

I have the high end X30. I am debating on buying a GPS addon, but don't completly understand the differences between Bluetooth and Reg GPS formats.

1). Do both work equally well?
2). Is there monthly subscription cost for bluetooth?
3). I'm thinking about the Globalsat SD-501 (not Bluetooth), but wouldn't it be better to buy one that leaves the SD slot open for maps?

Actually, you have three possibilities: Bluetooth, SD, or USB (wired connection at the bottom of your X30). All work equally well (in fact, most use the same chipsets).

Nope.

Most people would recommend that you leave the SD slot open for map storage. That leaves you the choice of either Bluetooth or USB.

Welcome to Aximsite!

You have several GPS options with your X30H:

1. BT - NO SUBSCRIPTION COST; wireless; can be used with other devices with BT connectivity; leaves SD slot open for maps; requires you carry two devices; seems to be the most popular for X30H

2. Serial - connects to the serial port via cable; only works with the device for which it was designed; leaves SD slot open for maps

3. SD - fits into SD slot meaning you are carrying just one device; SD slot cannot be used for maps

For more info, consult Jake's GPS guide here

I just got my X30 with the Dell Bluetooth GPS system the other day and I have to say that its pretty amazing!!! It comes with everything you need, a car charger that you can use to charge the X30 and the GPS receiver, a mounting arm for the X30, and a map of the entire US. I dont recommend getting the SD GPS kit because the maps take up a decent ammount of space so you'll definitely need that SD slot open for a card. I loaded a map of a 25 mile radius around where I live in New Jersey and that was like 18 megabytes, the whole state is around 36 MB. So if you are going on a trip where you'll be in multiple states you'll definitely need a somewhat large SD card. I'm going to buy a 512 or a gig card sometime soon.

I've decided on the TeleType GPS Bluetooth Receiver. It's $169.95 here http://www.storagemedia.com/product.asp?pf_id=1951. The CNET review and rating are great http://reviews.cnet.com/TeleType_GPS...tml?tag=glance
