SD card root directory files

Hi
Newbie question here..

Ive just installed my SD card (1GB Kingmax) and notice that it has a couple of files in the root directory:
1000M 974MB, and
ignore_my_docs 0 bytes.

Can anyone tell me what these are for?

Also, when I run activesync to install/remove a program it is unable to display the size of the SD card. Is that normal or could I have a problem?

Many thanks

i have the same issue with installing and i just ignore it. most likly the sd card needs to be formated by the handheld, but that is a guess

the "ignore_my_docs" file will appear soon after you format the card. just ignore it.

This file is generated by the OS in if Built-in storage or Storage Card does not have a My Documents folder underneath them. Thus, when the OS checks for a My Documents folder, it sees the ignore my docs file and does not scan it for My Documents. If you create a folder named My Documents in either BIS of SD card, the file will no longer be generated. Bottom line is its not hurting anything :)

Honestly, I've been around this forum for a bit, and I've seen alot of folks post great information. I think I did a Google search for ignore_my_docs to find this info. you'd be amazed what you can find with Google.

Also, here's another tip I learned. If you want to search aximsite with Google, here's what you'd do put in the Google search field:

ignore_my_docs site:aximsite.com

So, I've told Google to search aximsite.com only for ignore_my_docs. You can do this with any web site out there.

Here are the results of my search

Just to add a little to the info on ignore_my_docs. I've found with a large card containing a lot of files, if you do not have the My Documents folder, you can get some major lag while starting up certain of the programs. Adding the folder and deleting the ignore file really improves the start up time for these programs.

Thanks ikehiker - I created a My Documents folder on my SD card and deleted the ignore_my_docs file in the SD root directory. Ive noticed that some of my programs seem to run much faster now...

Did you create the folder while SD is in Axim or you created folder while SD is in card reader, for instance, by using pc?

thanks.

You should be able to do it either way although I've heard some people having trouble getting the PPC to see the folder when it was created on the PC. I've never had that problem, though.

Yeah, it makes sense. The reason i'm asking is I want to copy family pictures to SD through card reader while i create the folder at the same time. I have never tried ActiveSync yet as i received it last night :) and i read somewhere in the forum that ActiveSync appears to be slow when transfering large file from PC!
Well, i'll try to setup ACtiveSync tonight...

Yes, copying files over the USB/ActiveSync connection is pretty slow but you can definitely do the copying with a card reader. It's just the creation of the folder that may be in question.

I save all my Word, Excel and notes in my storage card. After performing my regular sync, I sent to my laptop "Pocket_PC My Documents" folder and found that none of my documents are in that sync folder. how can I sync all my documents that are stored in my storage card?
