What headphones do you recommend?
What headphones do you recommend for your Axim?

SONY MDR-W08 works really bad while some Phillips Magnavox from an old walkman makes a really big difference.

Please indicate what what Axim you have and what player are you using.

Thanks.

Sony MDR700DJ's on everthing from a Casio E-125 to my current X50v. I've used every player you can imagine. You have to not mind looking like a spaceman though, they are big and not recommended for jogging or other exercise use. Expensive too but the sound is fantastic! Try some at an electronics store and you'll hear what I mean. Really low Bass, really high and clear treble.

Very much a matter of personal preference. I personally like the Sony in-ear noise-cancelling headphones (I have the MDR-NC10, the MDR-NC11 is out now). However, the size of those is a bit larger for everyday use than I'd like. I recently picked up a cheap pair of earbud headphones from Radio Shack and am not at all happy with the sound quality (whaddaya expect for $10?). I think the sound quality on the Axim with the MDR-NC10 is better with 64Kbps music than a cheap pair of headphones with 128Kbps music. In other words, I feel the headphones make a much bigger difference in audio quality than the "quality level" setting in WMP. Both are important, but getting the right headphones is important, so you're smart to ask this forum. I also look forward to reading others opinions on this.

I've asked Santa to bring me a stocking stuffer of the Sony MDR-EX51LP -- again, the in-ear design I like, but not nearly as big as the noise-cancelling variety. Plus, unless you're on a plane, the noise-cancelling isn't tremendously useful (and even adds a slight 'hiss' as part of the noise-reduction process). Again, it's personal preference. I've always preferred the in-ear designs for 'walking around' earphones. However, at home I religiously use a pair of studio headphones with a cushion around the ear. Since you're looking for your Axim, I assume you're looking at a portable choice -- not studio headphones. So, my recommendation would be the Sony MDR-EX51LP, but am looking forward to reading additional recommendations.

My Ax is an X3i. My player is the built-in (WMP 9 series on Windows Mobile 2003). At home I use WMP 10 on Win XP SP2. At work I use WMP 9 on Win2K. I have 2 SD cards - one 256MB and one 512MB, both are mostly used for music.

I've got a pair of the MDR-EX51LP canal phones, and I'm not real happy with them. I prefer the way they fit to my Koss "The Plug" phones, but the Koss phones, modified with a pair of Leight foam earplugs with a hole burned through them with a wire hanger over the stove, have much better bass, better isolation and are louder. The Sony 51s don't reproduce bass well at all, and the Axim's headphone amplifier is weak, to say the least, which doesn't help the situation. EQing the sound to compensate for the weak bass of the 51s causes clipping.

I'd recommend the Koss "The Plug" canalphones, but only with the caveat that you have to modify them with decent foam ear plugs because the foam that comes with them doesn't work well.

I have the sehnheiser hd 212's and they sound great for me, deffinant improvement over the sony street style ones, also if your really into sound and headphones go on over to www.head-fi.org! But i have to agree with other people i think sound preferances can vary between people so best to just go and try some!

I've Sony in-ear earphones. Model MDR-EX71SL. A bit on the expensive side (mine were $79.99 CAD, there's a cheaper version which is something like $49.99 CAD that comes without a pouch and extender or something.) They're great.
I greatly recommend in-ear earphones. Natural noise cancelling is superb. Excellent bass. Very comfortable (regular headphones make my ears get all hot after time and causes discomfort, these don't). And very secure (comes with three detachable bud sizes, for different ear sizes).

If you've the money, I highly recommend in-ear buds.

I second that. I've always liked in-ear buds, however all i've ever owned were the cheapo ones and recently, the iPod headphones. They all never stay in my ear so they're very hard to walk with, and they're uncomfortable after a while. I bought the MDR-EX71SL and I must say, they're the best buds I've ever owned. What shazow says is true, they are way comfortable and they block out quite a bit of sound. I walked NYC and it drowned out much of the street noise. They also sound really good. Maybe not as good as those quality huge earphones, but I want something I can take with me and is small too. Amazon has them for about $30 U.S.

When you say the iPod headphones, do you mean the iPod in-earr ones? Because I was going to buy those, but then the Sony Store magically appeared in front of me, so... lol. Good thing, I guess.

Thanks shazow, I have been looking for something good in these prices. Do you use them with the Axim? Where did you buy them from?
