Bluetooth Phone
Hello Everyone,

First post, so here I go.

I just received my Axim x30 mid about 2 weeks ago and I was trying to figure out what the best solution would be for a cell phone that can go along with it. I already have a 2 month old Motorola T720 that does NOT have Bluetooth but I have found an Adapter from Mmtorola that allows the phone to work with Bluetooth. I dont feel like dishing out all that extra cash since this solution is only around 50$.

My primary reason for this is because I would like to send contacts phone numbers directly to my phone but I do not know if this is possible.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Louis

Don't know about that combination, but normally you can send contacts to the bt phone. I believe the bt service that is required is OBEX, so a phone that only supports hands free/headset would not work for sending contacts. Two examples that won't let you send contacts via bt are the Verizon v710 and the Blackberry 7100t (although since you sync the BB, it's OK).

I was getting ready to post almost the same question...

Is it common for newer phones to sync contacts with a PC? Syncing to the pocket PC would be uber convenient, but just going from a regular PC to a phone would be sufficient.

Sorry, maybe this is a question to be asked on a cell phone forum...

I have a Motorola V600 and I can send items from my Contacts on my Axim (X5 with Dell CF Bluetooth and Widcomm drivers) and from my phone to my Axim.
The only problem I have is from the phone to the Axim they add another entry to my address book. I'll straighten that out, and get things back to single entries on my Axim, and really all I'll do is send from the Axim to the phone.
Also, you can send pictures and sounds back and forth. I have loaded a few MP3 ringtones onto my phone and some pictures to use as backgrounds on my phone; works great.
The next thing I am trying to figure out is to be able to load Java games onto my phone. The only thing I need to do is spend a little time and get my phone capable of loading Java apps. (I found a phone forum at www.HowardForums.com that explains this process. I just need to spend the time to get it working.
Others also use the bluetooth between phone and Axim to connect to the internet, but I will not be doing that.

There's a whole WWIII situation brewing with Verizon and the V710 which has BT abilities available thru other phone services but Verizon has removed the functionality under the premise of security from hacking. BT headset works, other compatibility removed. If you google search V710/Verizon/Bluetooth you'll find some articles including a website offering a cash bonus to anyone that hacks the V710 and makes it fully blue tooth functional.

About syncing a phone to a PC...the Blackberry, of course, is a bit more than just a phone

But my SonyEricsson T610 also has limited software for syncing, if you purchased a data cable. For me, bt is enough.

Re: v710...you are so right about WWIII. My roommate got that phone and we were both surprised at all the things it couldn't do... But she is OK with it, I would not be. My biggest complaint is how little Verizon tells you (ok nothing) about the limitations, even once you get it and call for support.

so i cheked out the attachemend in a little more detail and all it will allow BT to work with is the headset, it will not allow for me to send contacts directly to my cell phone.

I guess I have to start shopping for a BT enabled cell phone.

These phones are pretty ancient, even if they are "new."

If you are looking for a BT phone from a Canadian carrier, then I'd stick with Rogers/Fido. Last that I had checked, Bell/TELUS didn't even offer BT phones.

If you decide to go with the BT adapter for your Motorola, I'd check to make sure allows more than just the headset profile. Awhile back, I looked at some Nokia BT adapters and found that they only allowed the phone to work with a BT headset, nothing else (i.e., no data transfer, etc.).

You are completely right Gigi, it allows only communications with the headset. I still have not found an adapter that will allow for full BT functionalityfor my Motorola.

I just purchasd the special PayGo edition of the Motorola V551m. Currently, it's only $290 (after rebates and plus taxes) on the Rogers website plus you get $60 minutes of airtime included (expires in 30 days though.) The phone is really full featured, and includes EDGE/GPRS, BT, cam and video. I have tried the BT connection with my PC as well as my X30H and it works great! No problems at all.

I realize that Motorola is not always known for great phones, but I am really pleased with this one. I was also looking at the Sony Ericsson T637 (also with BT) so that might be another one for you to consider.

I know you said you just purchased the T720, but you could consider selling it (when it's still relatively new and worth something) and upgrading to a BT phone.
