Does anyone use the bluetooth feature to connect to the internet via cell phone connection. I have been trying to research this and there is not alot of info out there. People at Verizon act like I am an idiot when I inquire. They only have 1 bluetooth phone available???? (way too pricy for me) I Currently own a motorola v60i. There is a Motorola wireless phone adapter that shows as compatible with my phone and that it would work for data and audio. (model # is dc600) If anyone uses a bluetooth adapter for there non-bluetooth phone to connect axim to internet, LET ME KNOW HOW!
I did a bit of research on these types of adapters before purchasing my current phone, and found that they only allow for headset use and NOT other BT functions (e.g., accessing the Internet, data transfer). I'd double check to make sure that this particular model does allow those other functions.
Verizon wireless has a new motorola phone the v710 which is their only BT phone. While it is capable of connecting to other BT devices and sending data (such as pics, files, etc) back and forth, Verizon has disabled this feature because they suck...I mean because it doesnt meet their "business policy" whatever that means (I have Verizon by the way, but will most likely be switching come Feb '05 when my contract is up because of their 'business policy' when it comes to file transfers). Instead they want to you to use their pay service to send pictures to the BT phone, etc.
Sprint also has BT phone. They suffered some major backlash from consumers because they too blocked the file transfer feature (OBEX). However, they have since re-thought it and from what I heard were going to unlock this feature in their phone.
Supposedly Cingular has a BT phone and they dont care if you send files back and forth between the phone and another BT device.
Best thing to do is check the internet regarding this manner and ask at the stores...if the salesperson doesnt know what you are talking about then walk out

sorry so long..

I have this adaptor
but the speed is s...l...o...w...(only 13k)
and it supports only 3 profiles
dial-up networking
serial port
headset
and be aware that...the adaptor is INCOMPATIBLE with Nextel phones
if you'd like to use bt phone, avoid verizon, they disable a critial bt function: OBEX, then they can force us to use expensive get it now
if you can use T-Mobile in your area, you can get V600 or new A630, the bt is a lot better; for Cingular, they sells v551, which supports EDGE, which can go up to 180k

The 551 doesn't support OBEX so you can't sync contacts right?
huh?????!
if it don't support OBEX (including business card exchange), then you can't exchange phone address
but phone sync is using serial port, then it's still possible
then you can go for T637, better bt and cheaper (if you don't need EDGE), you can buy it from 3rd party dealer, and sign up T-Mobile, it's class 8, good enough for GPRS

I wish they had a phone that supported everything with EDGE. ie-DUN, OBEX, etc.
Do you guys know of any coming in the coming month that are good that support everything?
I have the Motorola V 551 (on Rogers in Canada) and so far, I've been able to access the Internet and transfer files. I will be able to try a BT headset when I get one.
Hmm, I am lost. If I were to purchase the v551 or the 6820 from Cingular, can I use my axim to get online via the service? Would it use the data service or would it take my minutes away (if it takes my data plan, then it should be faster than that of minutes)? What if i get the 20 bucks unlimited data service? What's the deal here? Need help fast, wanna change service!

I don't have any answers for you DeltaTL6, as I can only speak about my service here in Canada. The way I connect to the Internet via my phone is by using GPRS/EDGE. This is faster than using your phone as a dialup modem (i.e., minutes).
You need to check with Cingular to determine what the best plan would be for you, and if there are any limitations.
I have a feeling that they have special treatments for Canadians (absolutely no offense intended). Sprint always rip us americans off. A few questions for u (Gigi) though. What phone do u use? And do u use it to connect to your pda via BT? I already have Sprint, and i have Vision service, but I want a BT phone that can let me go online with my axim. Although sprint is coming out with a BT (non-smartphone) phone, they seem to be very conservative in giving users ability to use their Vision service on their PDA/laptop (hence the DATA PLAN). That's y i m considering Cingular, they dun seem to care, (interestingly, AT&T does have specific policy stating you shouldn't connect to PDA/Laptop or else it's extra, funny coz they just finished merging with Cingular now... So confusing. Can anyone helP??!

I have heard about some of the tactics of the U.S. wireless carriers, but rest assured that you guys still have a much larger selection of very good plans at decent rates. For example, there is no where we could get a $20 unlimited data plan.
Anyway, I am currently using the Moto V551 to access the Internet on my X30H. It is a brand new model and has a lot of advanced features such as EDGE and video. It is apparently a step above the V600 but at a lower price. When I was making my decision about phones, it came down to the V551 and the SE T637 (has BT but no EDGE). SE definitely has a better reputation for quality, but I chose Moto because of EDGE. I never looked at the Nokias because my carrier didn't carry any of their BT models.
Thank you. Now i just wanna know if anyone actually got BT Internet on AXIM via EDGE/GPRS network with cingular. If so, what phone, what setting, and what plan? (I don't wanna pay 80 bucks for those data plan). Provide info if u have done this. Thanks.
