Axim X30 and cell phone

Can I connect my Axim X30 and a nextel i830? I have the cable from supplynet but keep having issues. I can see the nextel begin the process of a data call then I get the error message that "number failed to answer". I'm not sure what to do from this point. Any advise would be helpful.
