I installed a PPC Tech WriteShield screen protector today on my new X30. Unlike my prior experience installing a protector to an Axim 5, the technique described below resulted in a perfectly installed protector on my first try with no lint or dirt specs trapped under the protector. I am so happy. I really hate to have to remove a misaligned protector and reinstall it. To give proper credit I tried this after seeing another post on this site that described using a single strip of cellophane so I am indebted to that poster.
1. Applied two strips of masking tape about 5 inches long (I did not have any cellophane tape) across the narrow width , one near the top and one near the bottom sticking it to the actual top surface of the protector. One end of the each tape was folded over so that the sticky tape only extended on one side, the other side is to be used as a sort of handle.
2. I then placed the protector with its plastic carrier on the Axim locating exactly as I wanted it to be when finished.
3. Without moving the protector/carrier I stuck the sticky portion to the frame at one side of the Axim. I then had a hinge that allowed me to lift the protector up and replace it exactly in the location I wanted it,
4. I then cleaned the screen with the supplied cleaner material, dried it with the supplied lint-free cloth, and lowered the protector down onto the Axim screen (after peeling off the backing from the screen protector).
5. A few minutes squeezing out a couple of air bubbles using a credit card and I had a perfectly positioned protector with absolutely no material trapped underneath.
As far as the use of the alcohol based cleaning cloth supplied by PPC Techs, I think there is no problem with this affecting the digitizer screen since the amount of liquid transferred from the damp tissue is so small. If you got enough liquid to extend past the screen and perhaps leak down into the Axim internal parts, you might have a disaster on your hands.
Since my previous experience resulted in the ScreenWrite outlasting my Axim, I believe the two protectors will be all I ever need. My only gripe is the cost of shipping (maybe I selected the wrong shipping method) which was over $10. They could have put into an envelope and mailed it for less than $1.
