Rhino Skin+Extended battery = ERROR
Has anyone tried to modify a Rhino Skin Aluminum case to hold the extended battery? I had a few ideas:
1) Remove the lining where the battery goes and carefully use a rubber/wooden mallet to form a track for the battery just where you need it, then add a much thinner lining.
Do you think that the case is mallable enough that you could do this?
2) Totally remove the case from the battery area so that you can put it on/take it off while it is in there (this would lock the axim in the case until the battery is removed).
Problem: that's removing a lot of the case; you would need to make REALLY precise cuts and make them clean (how?)

Anyone have other ideas to add? What do you think is most likely to work?

I know that in any case, there is a high chance that I will fail and I am prepared to replace my case if i skrew up, so please don't post that kind of negative comments!

I don't know that there is enough metal in that thin of a case to try and form it to fit the larger size of the extended battery.

Bingo.

If you looking at doing some precise cutting on that material I would recomend using a Dremel with a cut-off wheel to remove what you want, and then a grinding stone to round off any sharp edges.

right, that's the only way I know, I have the metal-cutter setup so that's a likely choice (I LOVE that tool)

if you COULD hammer the AL, it would require removing all the inside padding and anneling the metal with a sooty torch.

You are right Seanz0rz, didn't think of that.
I'll probably try the dremel.
I'll let you all know how it turns out

Yay! it's good to know it works, that way, when I mess it up, I know it was all my fault!
did you use the 'metal cutting' bit attachment or did you use a cut-off wheel?

reinforced cut off wheels are the best. they are a bit bigger, come in smaller packs, are more expensive, and will save you tons of time!

look for reinforced cutoff wheels

they are black, look like a round waffel and about i.25 inch in dia. i believe.

I have a huge Dremmel kit, and I know what reinforced cutoff wheels are (I don't like to bother writing out reinforced every time) but thank you.

If you look through the dremel website you can find the exact extension piece you need before you go to the store. It will save you from standing in the aisle, looking like a fool, while you go from bit to bit reading what each one can do.

Not that I have ever done that.
