I now have 2 Lexar 1GB SD cards with the following (nearly unreadable) part numbers:

The cards are identical USA cards, dark blue etc. as Choirguy has described. The only physical difference between them is that the new Lexar has a narrower, deeper groove at the bottom of the front face, making it more similar to Sandisk and Panasonic SD cards in terms of physical form factor. See the attached photo for a better idea. The old Lexar card is in the foreground.
Both can write at 5.5MB/sec (37.5X) in a USB2 reader (no longer have an Axim to test in).
Kudos to Choirguy for the data collection, btw--that list is very well populated now.
