PDA -> mp3 car stereo
For those of you with an FM transmitter/modulator/stereo line-in/etc., what music player program do you use to play mp3's on your PDA in your car/truck/SUV/jaloppy/ride?
What is your configuration?
What are the specific pros/cons?
Pics?

************
I have an x3i running Today Player (...too bad there will be no more support... <sniff, sniff>...). With a Belkin TuneCast II Mobile FM Transmitter, in a '02 Honda Civic.

Pros:
- TodayPlayer: customizable full screen mode allows easy on-the-road access to player controls and purdy pictures...
- TodayPlayer: "Display on/off" allows for battery/screen saving
- TodayPlayer: Lotsa features...
- FM Transmitter: Wireless, convenient connectivity

Cons:
- TodayPlayer: doesn't have easily accessible (on-the-road) stereo extras (shuffle, repeat, bass boost, etc.)
- FM Transmitter: Lack of sound quality; sometimes static
- FM Transmitter: Poor physical range
- FM Transmitter: Frequency availability from city to city

Pic: None
(*Note to self: clean car before embarassing self online... )

I have an FM transmitter (Belkin) that I use in my car. You can check out MortPlayer, as it has big buttons and is designed for using while driving. I just don't know if it lets you toggle the screen off, but I'm sure it does. The developer is CONSTANTLY upgrading it and loves to take suggestions.

I use Beta Player 0.96 (forget every other player) with my X30, love it, screen Blanker, programble buttons including the side volume knob which i re-programmed to be used as next / prev mp3 song, also plays video, xvid, divx, avi, ...

i use a mercury PLL LCD 12v car battery plug-in FM transmitter, crystal clear (everyone thinks I am playing CDs). Freq range 8.1 - 9.1 in 0.2 increments, no battery change, and looks great in the car, metalic silver.
hope this helps.

I know everyone thinks that using betaplayer is clear but even when i play a 192 bitrate track from beta player with the quality set on high, you can still tell that the bitrate quality of it is not even 128. I enjoy loud music, and have a good ear for hearing good and bad quality, maybe its just me

Yeh, it's probably just you. If your music is recorded at 196kbps (in what format? MP3, WMA, OGG?) and you are still hearing static, it is probably a fault of your stereo system or your ears. I have all my music in MP3 Pro format at 96kbps. With $12 stereo headphones, I can't hear any static or additional noise. I have sharp ears, and the music definitely sounds as good as a CD. With my FM transmitter, there is noticeable static during very quiet moments or between songs, but that noise is introduced by my stereo system or interference with the transmitter, not the music file itself.

I think every self-proclaimed "audio lover" should be forced to listen to 8-tracks and vinyl for an entire week, every year, for the rest of their life. That would teach you to appreciate having 5,000 cd-quality songs in your hip pocket with gapless playback, equalization, bass boost, etc.

i too used mortplayer and it does allow you to turn the screen off in one of the setup options. the only problem with mortplayer is that the shuffle does not work, it might be just me but i think you have to create a shuffle list or something in order for it to work.
