1800mAh Battery for $18??
IS this a good price for a 1800mAh battery for my x3i? I found it on ebay. Its brand new.. .. Wonder why the other ones are so expensive?

Well..........because the other ones include the circuitry that prevents the battery from overcharging and exploding!!!

There have been several incidents in the news recently where purchasers of these extremely cheap batteries have been burned and/or severely injured when these cheap (usually made in China or Hong Kong) batteries just kept on charging and charging and charging until they overheated and split open spilling chemicals and/or just simply exploded in a pocket or purse.

If you bought one, we are a caring community here at AximSite, so be sure to let us know where to send those cards & letters during your recuperation.

Hello MrKlaatu,

Just to mention that I received a battery from China recently. I was curious and wanted to see what the hype was all about. It was brand new (1700mAh not 1800mAh, they couldn't get it right). The battery would not even fit on the X30. It was about 0.010" too large! Can you imagine! How does a manufacturer, who wants to make and sell batteries, make a battery that can't even fit in the unit it was designed for?!?

Needless to say, I won't be buying any of their batteries. But I had to see for myself. (Doubting Thomas and all. Actually, Doubting Mark )

I bought a 1800mAh battery for my Axim X30 off of Ebay for %15.50. It came in a professional retail package and comes with a 6 month warranty. It also says "made in Japan". Fits perfect and works great.

Cheap is not always the solution. I agree that it is tempting to purchase these spare batteries for such a low price. It doesn't mean that they are all going to explode but why take any chances with your Axim. The regular warranty won't cover this type of damage. Just be careful. BTW I will send a card too...

The batteries are CE and UL approved. Doesn't get much better than that.

Just_Guess,

All batteries are required to carry the CE mark in Europe. It's the law. However, the UL mark is nice to see. There shoudl be a series of numbers with the UL mark. It should start E#####. Can you post that number? It will tell me who the manufacturer of the cells are. I will bet that it is from Sanyo (who make the cells for Dell).

Thanks,

MEF38

MEF38,

My bad! Correction....the battery is not UL approved. I saw the CE and thought it was UL as well. The package says it's made by "Powersmart" and it says cells are made in Japan. The front of the package says it's a battery for "Symbol Scanner". The website claims the battery meets or exceeds manufacturer specifications. The vendor on Ebay has a good reputation and sells lot's of batteries so I think the risk is very minimal. I would be concerned if the battery was just thrown in a box but it was packaged very well and appears to work great. I guess I'm the guinea pig...I'll let you know if I have any problems.

I bought a super-cheap extended battery for my cell phone years ago (lithium ion... can't remember the mfg or web site anymore, tho) - it had the UL stamp of approval so I thought I'd be ok. I was happy for the first 10 months or so... then one day it just started losing it's charge after about 30 hours of being on. Granted, it didn't explode on my face, but I ended up going back to the OEM battery that came with it until the phone died - didn't want to waste more money. I got a mugen for my X30 and have been happy so far... and have some confidence that I'll stay that way
