Seeking Aluminum Case Engineer....
... to construct a double hinged aluminum case for Axim X30 (Mid)
so that the case cover can be openend around to the back. I've got
the idea, just have no clue as to how to even start to make it.
Any takers?

i've got an idea but the construction of the doors wouldn't allow them to be swung all the way back

I've got an idea too, but making it is the issue. What's your idea?

This is an email I sent to Saunders-usa... the makers of the rhinoskin alunimum case

Quote:
1st thing I love it, but I have a few suggestions that would make it a bit better.

The case lid:

It would be nice if the spare SD slots were moved up to make room for a spare CF slot

The sd cards are currently placed in backwards so the labels cannot be read

It would be nice if the lid was removable or double-hinged so it could fold flat to the back.

If the upper edge of the case would extend over the CF and SD slots on the Axim to prevent them from escaping

It is very slick, some rubber grips would prevent it from sliding around when placed on a flat surface

The case body:

It is very slick, some rubber grips would prevent it from sliding around when placed on a flat surface

When opening the lid, my left thumb tends to press the record/wireless buttons, a little ledge would make it easier to open

I really do like this case, the only other case I’d even consider would be the iHolster, and this one is much better

Thank you

Conrad Wheeler

Check out the Magnum cases at www.innopocket.com. It looks like a case for the X50 is coming, but no mention if one for the X30 is in the works. The problem I see is the belt clip post. How can the cover seat well when flipped over if the belt clip post is attached? It seems the post would dent and/or scratch the cover when flipped. And, the double hinge may allow the cover to slide increasing the chances for scratching. Holding the pda with one hand may be difficult/uncomfortable with the belt post attached.
I am also looking for a hard case and prefer one with a double hinge allowing the cover to seat against the back.

Radimus: ever get a reply from that email?

Innopocket's magnum case won't work for the X30 because of the antenna,
but aximcases has a metal case that innopocket is listed as the
manufacturer that has everything you ask for, Radimus, minus the double
hinge, which is the main improvement needed. Someone is bound to come
up with it eventually.

there are 2 main reasons why the rhino has no top to it.

first, how the hell would you get the pda in there?

and second, SDIO devices, such as a pharos sdio gps device, wouldnt work with the case.

the reason for no double hinge is that it would seriously impact the strength of the pda on that peticular side, and would cost a hell of a lot more

i have a perfect idea for a double hinge, but doing it would be a bitch, and it would mean the latch would not opperate anymore, youd have to find a new way to keep it closed, or do alot of modification on the hinges to make it work right.

if you want my idea, i would be happy to share it with you. id even be tempted to try it, once academic decathlon is over. (march 13)

After emailing Innopocket about a possibility of constructing a case for the X30, their short response was as follows:
"Thanks for your inquiry, but this moment we just plan to make with become
model not old!

Regards,
Ben"

Way to leave out a large number of potential clients of a product that is still being manufactured.

my idea would be at the hinge...

it would be a triple hinge system

------------------------------- A
B
------------------------------- C

the lines above would be the edge of the hard case... B being the main hinge

the hinge on B would be allowed to swing around at 180 degrees

whereas the hinges on A and C would be restricted to 90 degrees each

the metal along this side could be covered in a padding material such as neoprene

see, the real answer to this question is to have a top flip case, like my new sena.

and actually, it wouldnt be that hard to do, but i dont think i would like to delve into that. i really should finish my 3040432 other projects before i begin a new one.

This is an email I sent to Saunders-usa... the makers of the rhinoskin alunimum case

++++++++++++++++++

I am in Canada, and would like to purchase a less bulky case than the leather one I bought from Dell. The strap closure makes it difficult to fit in my pocket, so looking for a more streamlined case. I note that Dell Canada sells the rhinoskin from Saunders for $47 Cdn, free shipping, and the rhino has a removable belt clip assembly.

Thanks

The 'top' to cover the card slots would be on the lid, not on the base

The double hinge would be reinforced by tabs/clips, such as the guides currently in the case, but just a bit sturdier.

as for sdio and such type cards that would protrude from the top... well, they do not make many cases for high capacity batteries and with internal wifi and bluetooth, most of the cards would just be memory. My GPS is Bluetooth.
