You could try the Belkin Gladiator. It's a steel case that's designed to fit many different types of PDA's. I ordered one open-package off E-bay for about $8 shipped. Pros include:
1) that the outer shell is made of steel
2) it completely encloses a device
3) the swivel hinge allows the case to flip completely back on
itself when open (think opening a spiral notebook as opposed
to a hard-bound book)
4) a little plastic stand swivels out (kinda like the back of a
picture frame), allowing you to prop it up in either the
portrait or landscape position (very handy for watching
videos)
That said, I have two major gripes with it:
1) the clips for holding a device are cheap plastic things that
adjust by sliding along in tracks built into the plastic inner
wall of the case. The lip of each clip is about 3/4" from the
base...unfortunately, my X30 is about 1/2" at its widest
point. I suspect that if you had an extended battery on your
Axim it would fit rather nicely beneath the clips. I don't, so
I'm looking around for a thin piece of foam rubber or
something similar to glue inside so that the clips hold the
device more firmly.
2) the stylus holder consists of two tiny plastic nubs on one
side of the case. Unfortunately, the shape of the X30 stylus
makes it impossible to snap in. Also, because the case fully
encloses the device, it's impossible to get the stylus out of
the sleeve built into the Axim while the device is in the
case. The clips look like they would hold a round stylus, so I
might take a trip to Staples or Best Buy or something to see
about buying a cheap stylus pack with ones that will fit.

By the way, the price there at the Belking catalog store is awful...like I said, I got mine for $8 shipped off e-bay. If anyone has a gladiator and has elegant solutions to the problems I listed above, please let me know!
