Does anyone know where I could find a x30 case that doesn't expose the Axim at all?
Are there any metal cases for the x30 that have no cutouts exposing the Axim? My main reason for a Aluminum case is to protect the unit while I’m not using it, so the cutouts would be more of a liability than an asset. I looked at most of the cases reviewed here on Aximsite, and I haven’t found a case that doesn’t expose the Axim.

Here are two of them. Though I am not sure they are exactly what you are looking for.

Thanks, but I think that’s a bit excessive.

I basically want something about the same size as a rhinoskin aluminum case, but without any holes exposing the Axim.

That's the shape I had in mind. I'm looking for something like that, but made of metal.

You could try the Belkin Gladiator. It's a steel case that's designed to fit many different types of PDA's. I ordered one open-package off E-bay for about $8 shipped. Pros include:

1) that the outer shell is made of steel
2) it completely encloses a device
3) the swivel hinge allows the case to flip completely back on
itself when open (think opening a spiral notebook as opposed
to a hard-bound book)
4) a little plastic stand swivels out (kinda like the back of a
picture frame), allowing you to prop it up in either the
portrait or landscape position (very handy for watching
videos)

That said, I have two major gripes with it:

1) the clips for holding a device are cheap plastic things that
adjust by sliding along in tracks built into the plastic inner
wall of the case. The lip of each clip is about 3/4" from the
base...unfortunately, my X30 is about 1/2" at its widest
point. I suspect that if you had an extended battery on your
Axim it would fit rather nicely beneath the clips. I don't, so
I'm looking around for a thin piece of foam rubber or
something similar to glue inside so that the clips hold the
device more firmly.

2) the stylus holder consists of two tiny plastic nubs on one
side of the case. Unfortunately, the shape of the X30 stylus
makes it impossible to snap in. Also, because the case fully
encloses the device, it's impossible to get the stylus out of
the sleeve built into the Axim while the device is in the
case. The clips look like they would hold a round stylus, so I
might take a trip to Staples or Best Buy or something to see
about buying a cheap stylus pack with ones that will fit.

For a picture of it, click here:

By the way, the price there at the Belking catalog store is awful...like I said, I got mine for $8 shipped off e-bay. If anyone has a gladiator and has elegant solutions to the problems I listed above, please let me know!

That looks pretty good, though a bit big. Unless if I put some padding in the case, my x30 would be moving around a lot.

As far as the stand, can you rotate it so that a x30 would be in landscape mode? That would work a lot better for video playback than in portrait mode.

Zebulunite -

Because of the swivel hinge, the Gladiator can easily be propped up a number of different ways to display the Axim in landscape. I just finished modding mine with some foam rubber and contact cement, and now my Axim fits like a pro. I also picked up a stylus four-pack at Staples for $4.99...they're designed for a palm, but they snap securely into the stylus holder on the Gladiator, whereas the stylus that came with my Axim does not.

One thing, I can't plug in headphones when my X30 is in the Gladiator...something to keep in mind if you were planning on using it in an airplane or something. For what it's worth, I can hear sound just fine coming from the speaker on the back of the unit while it's in the Gladiator...I left a space between the speaker and the inner plastic shell of the case, and the sound gets out just fine through that.

I'm going to try to attach a few photos for you to get a better idea of how the case looks and the mods I did.

Thanks Atreadon for the photos. I may get that case, since it is the best case I've seen that doesn't expose the Axim. The swivel hinge would be nice for watching videos.

I have this case also, and will totally protect your Pda,i use it with my X50v.
Pros
1.Found at stores like Staples, office max
2.Very Resonably Priced about $30.00
3.Case can standup by itself with Pda inside
4.Universal Fit for Pda's
5.Has built in access for infraRed
Cons
1.The design of the clips are flimsy
2.You need to remove from case to place on cradle
3. the X50v stylus is too small for the stylus holder thats built in so i need to get diff stylus for this
4.There is no Holder for cards(CF and SD)
