I'm about to purchase a Dell Axim X30 624MHz and I am wondering what is good SD memory to use in the expansion slot? I've been looking at the Kingmax 512MB Platinum 60X High Speed SD card, but then again I don't know what to look for. Here is my shopping cart thus far:
I have the same Dell Axim X30 High. I made the decision that since there is only the ONE slot - unlike the x50 - which has a SD and CF slot - to get the BIGGEST storage Card that I could find - and leave it in there ALL the time.
I have installed a lot of stuff on there.....and I also have all my music, pictures and movies on there. The e-books, dictionaries, bibles, etc...take up a lot of space and their is just not that much space on the hard drive of the Dell.
I have been most happy with my decision....and plan on purchasing a bigger capacity SD card as soon as they are available and affordable.
I have had a LOT of MMC and SD cards as I have been using PDAs and Pocket PCs for years. The only cards I would really say that I have had a problem with is the PQI brand. This brand has a very weak locking mechanism which I had to tape open to work with my Dell X30 high. Although it always worked easily in a card reader, the X30 slot made the lock slide into the closed position when inserted. My favorite cards have been SanDisk and Toshiba.

I'm still waiting for my X30Mid to ship from Dell. I already purchased a Kingston 512MB SD card for it. Is there a reason that I should leave the same card in the Axim all the time?
I'm new to this forum (1st post - you guys are great!) so I apologize if this subject has been covered before.
FWIW I use my PDA daily for work (rarely away from work) and for daily use without movies or mp3's I have been living with a 32MB card for six months now.
With about 50 or 60 documents (Excel, Word and Task lists) I am using 1.5MB of my storage card and 4MB of my system storage.
If you like to watch movies or play games then I suppose a large memory card is a good idea but if you just plan on working on your PDA (I am a diehard PC gamer...kinda tough for me to PDA game) then I'd suggest trying it without any memory card at all. You'll be surprised at how much you can stash in your system without one.
you may want to check out ATP's SD cards. They're 60x (though I don't know if the X30 can take advantage of that yet or not...mine's coming in a few days) and this reviewer really put his card through some serious abuse and it still worked. Their 1GB is only $83 too which isn't too bad at all.

yes, the main reason is that we tend to install all of our applications
on the external card, or we moved most* of the *.DLL
onto the external card.
as you can see the external card takes an important role...

Convenience? Why would there be a need for more than one card if 1GB is more than enough? I've got the complete maps of Texas and Louisiana on mine, dozens of books, and a few programs and games as well as the backups. Still haven't managed to fill it even a quarter.
Seriously, the only time I take the card out is to put on more stuff, which is faster through the card reader than via ActiveSync.
