Older plugs on X30s? Did they change them?
I have 3 different types of extenders:
1.

Has worked fine for me for 7 months. It's not regulated, so you should unplug it when it finishes charging, let your Axim drain down some, recharge it, etc. I get about 2-3 full charges from AA alkalines.
2.

I have multiple rechargeable devices with USB cables, and that is really handy. It's slightly larger than the eBay one, and it has a pocket clip. I believe this one is regulated. I'm not sure how long it lasts with just the Axim alone since I frequently use a USB hub with it to top off the charge on multiple devices (phone, GPS, Axim, BT headset).
3.

This is the one I carry around the most when size isn't completely important. I can use it as an AC adaptor, it recharges the batteries, and it's just really convenient.
Of course, with the last two you need to get a sync/charge cable, but those are also cheap on eBay, and you can also get the mini-sync retractable kind.
The way I use this one, is charge up the Axim with it, stick it in a nearby wall socket (and make a mental note to retrieve it) so the batteries charge up, recharge Axim/phone/etc, rinse and repeat as necessary. AC sockets are frequently available, but not conveniently located.
