Secur Digital Memory cards
What is the best deal out there for a 512 or 1g card for a X30? Tiger Direct lists as different speeds , does anybody know what that means?

Look at thread in X30 / X3 / X3i Forums titled "Cheap 1 GB SD card". That thread should probably be here in accessories.

Buy the 32x cards, they are not that much more expensive, and Tiger's price for a 1G is less than USD$100.

I recomend looking for a 1GB Lexar card on sale. You can pick one up for $60 on sale. I did.

Their standard cards run at the same speed as their 32X cards. Though you will not see the added speed when using it on the Axim as the faster speed is the write speed, not read speed, and the Axim's SD slot is nowhere near capable of using even a standard card at its full speed.

I think there's a caveat there. I don't remember what Astounded's figures were for SD memory with various Lexar cards OUTSIDE of Axims. But what we can say, with some certainty, is that all Lexar 1GB cards seem to run at the same speeds INSIDE Axims. And that makes you question why any of use would ever buy the 32x cards.

The worst part is that I did...2 of them. My third card is a "standard"

I can say I purchased 3 standard cards for my Axim because of the research Choirguy did.

If we're talking Lexar.

We cannot say the same for other cards.

hmm...an opinion please

i'm planning to get a 1gb just for video's no music since i got a mp3 player

and another 512mb for books+programs...but wondering if a 256mb should suffice...i've used a 128mb memory stick for my previous palm pda and had it was never near filled up...or maybe i should just forget the extra sd and stick with a 1gb sd card?

I use lexar (1gb sd) and sandisk 512,1gb cf and sd cards. I find all of them to work great on the axim. You sometimes can find great deals on them from newegg. I got my 1gb sandisk cf card there for $45
