Sony earbuds- MDR-71 vs. MDR-51
Hey I have been thinking about getting the MDR-EX71SP's but then I read a thread on here about the MDR-EX 51LP's being about the same thing as the others without the extension remote option. I am definitely getting sonys and definitely earbuds I was wondering if this is true and if it is I’d like to know how to get a 71 case since I have heard that the 51 case sucks. Any thoughts are appreciated!
Thanks

i have the 71 and its great but hurts my ear some times cause it goes in too deep. i'd go with the 51 b/c u won't really notice the difference. plus if you have a remote along with the 71, u wouldn't even be able to hook it up to the axim. regarding the case, i hardly use it cause i just wrap the headphones around the axim when im not using it.

I have the 71 and also do not use the case very often. The sound is great. Today I forgot them at home and had to use regular earphone. It isn't the same at all. I only know about the 71 and recommend them.

Got the 51's a couple of months ago and they're fine, if a little itchy after a couple of hours. The price one pays for a great listening experience I suppose.

Mine came with a joke of a 'case' which is just supposed to house the earbuds themselves, leaves the wire with nowhere to go but all tangly. So I use a round Altoids cough drop tin, where I also store the optical connector cable and clips for linking my Belkin infrared keyboard to my X5. Keep a couple of CF cards in there too. Round is good, easy to coil up the earphone wire quickly for stowage.

I didn't want the remote model, so didn't bother with the 71's, mostly because I wanted the things to be light as possible for running. I even chopped up the wire at the splitter and re-soldered it to make the right-side one shorter, as it seems made to travel under a ZZ-Top style beard or something. Better just clearing under the chin, minimal and shorter for putting away. Some fussy little wire work though.

I have a pair of the MDR-EX71SLs and just love them. The case leaves something to be desired, however.

I have to agree about the case. Gerard suggestion about the Altoids metal case is a great idea. Lets buy Altoids mints

I know it's a bit late, but I just feel like letting others know theres is a new model from Sony: MDR-EX81. They have great sound, better than the 71's, but also hook around the ears, which prevent them from slipping out. I suffered from the problem with accidentally hitting wires and pulling the 51's I had out, and almost losing the little inserts.

I love mine as well but hate the case. I will have to try the Altoids case!

Thanks,

I just got my MDR-EX 51LPs today and boy do those earbuds go right in! I feel like I'm underwater. I'm still testing them out but so far so good.
