Cables.... cables!
Okay... There are about 8million different kinds of cables you can get for a PDA! It's rather confusing. But, what I want is pretty simple:

- Car charging abilities
- Regular electrical outlet charging abilities

Neither of those two should require a computer! I have run in to a lot of charges that charge via USB port... what's the point of that! If you have a USB port, you obviously have access to a computer. And if you have access to a computer, you might have well just lugged the regular cables with you!

So, ideally, is there anything that will do those two things above, AND, optionally, be able to sync if I so desire?

I have been looking at this: http://www.ppc4you.com/pages/12350.html . What exactly is it, and how exactly does it work?

Is there anything that does what I desire? An adapter that will plug in to car/wall outlets for charging, plus if you so desire, you can plug this same unit into USB to sync. BUT, it should not be charging via USB! I don't want that. The purpose I bought a PDA was to leave my laptop at home! If I have to use a USB port to charge this, I might as well carry my laptop around!

Boxwave makes a cable that has a single head which can connect to either AC or auto. Reports on aximsite haven't been too kind from those that bought it, but it's an option.

The one you posted the link to is a cable with a swappable power head - either connect to AC or auto depending on which you need. But you have to carry all 3 parts with you.

As to using USB to charge, you won't need to trickle charge via USB from a computer most of the time. However, for simplicity, many chargers use a USB connection to facilite swapping out the differnt power adapters. The one you asked about does this, using a USB plug to connect to the AC or auto adapter, or if you have your laptop with you, as some people do, allowing you to Sync and charge also, say in your hotel room overnight.

You don't have to use the USB trickle charge capability if you don't want to, it's an option for those that travel more heavily.

That kit will do what you're looking for it to do. I just received a usb charger and wall wart adapter (the kit you mentioned minus the car piece) and it works fine for my needs.

anyla.com was the vendor, really fast shipping, great service, cheap prices.

The parts are actually decent quality too, and as I was expecting worse, I was instead pleasantly surprised. Thick, soft rubber sheathing on the cable, sturdy connectors, and the wall wart also feels solid.

Do you find that the 3ft retractable cable is long enough?

All of these adapters are confusing, haha.

I bought the boxwave wall/car combo as well as the plane adapter. The only other item you need is a USB cable. This way it can be used for charging other devices, eg. cell phones, other PDA's, etc. All you need is a USB cable for the device, which boxwave also sells.
www.boxwave.com

I havent hand any problems, nor have I heard of any with the wall/car charger.

If you or anyone else has, please drop me a line or two. Thx

Has everything you need, retractable charge-n-sync, auto and wall power adapters. I have their phone USB charger also and can use them interchangeably!

TigerDirect has a good selection -

Would you assume that this kit: http://www.ppc4you.com/pages/11817.html also works with the X30's? Is the interface all the same?

Does anyone make like 6ft versions of the USB sync/charge cables?

Yes, x3/x3i/x30 all same connector.

Don't know if this would work for you, but I leave a 3' USB extender cable plugged-in to both my work & home machines to avoid having to reach around with my 30" retractable.

Yeah there's actually this: http://www.boxwave.com/products/versacharger/index.htm

Even though there are two pics... it is two pics of the same product. That is all one unit. By default it does car and AC. You can get an adapter for plane. It takes the usual USB connection. This actually seems like a very clever device. I opted for my original choice though, because I intend to use my PDA to listen to music in my car with an FM transmitter. So I didn't want to constantly have to be plugging and unplugging this thing. So I opted to have them separate, so I could leave the adapters plugged in and just move the nifty retractable cable.

AH! It looks like I got ahead of myself.

The AC Adapter for Car Chargers works with the miniSync and DirectSync.

The AC Adapter for Car Chargers will eliminate having to carry around a Car Charger and Wall Charger separately!

Cheers,
Cho
