I am completely stuck...
Hello,

At work I am in charge of four Dell Axim devices used by four different people. These four people use the device to gather data (number of people) and bring them back to me. The program used was written by a former employee whom we have no contact with--it is unique. The problem we have run into is we have lost the ability to download the data into the database. i use VICESYNC to sync up to my work station and in the past it has automatically connected to the active database. Now, for some reason, the handheld device says it is synced, as well as my work station, yet the data does not download into the database. On top of this, I have tried to re-download the program onto devices which have crashed and when complete an error message comes up saying database error when I try to use the program, which makes the program unusable and obsolete. Perhaps when I tried figuring out what the database error was in downloading I did something that lost the connection between the vicesync program and the database. However it happened, I am now stuck trying to get two handhelds equipped with the program without the database error message, and trying to get the other three hand helds to sync up to the database so I can download the data. If anyone has any way to help me, please help. As I said, I am completely stuck.

Thanks,

Chump

Sounds like he may have left some sort of Software Limiting Timer in "his" app.

Any newly added firewall or anti-spyware software added to the PC, which may be intercepting the data stream?

Sounds like you are using an app written in VisualCE (could tell by VICESYNC)... I have done some work in this area. Has your PC always been the one that was used to sync these devices? If so, you need to check WCEODBC.ini - it is the file that vicesync reads when doing a sync. It should also have a pointer for every table that is on the devices to be sync'd and how they should sync. Also vicesync will likely use an ODBC connection if you are connected to a server-side db (Oracle / SQL Server). I could go on, but check these items first.

I appreciate the comments.

First Mr. Klaatu

If he did put on a Software Limiting Timer is there any way to extend the timer? Find out the extent of the timer etc?

wilmiester,

This became a problem about a week ago and I don't think there was any firewalls or anti-spyware added to the machine. It doesn't sound like that is the problem.

deejayspinz,

It sounds like you have a really good idea of what the problem could be. This is about the third PC that's been used to sync the devices. So perhaps it's not so much the file you mention but something else? I looked up the file you mentioned and see the tables listed. I will need to get help in determining if it is pointing to the right tables. I will give that info to the programming folks here at work. perhaps that will help them figure it out. If you want to go on, that sounds good to me. You are correct it is an ODBC connection and SQL server.
