A Horrible Boxwave ClearTouch Experience
Hello all,

I got my 3 pack of Boxwave ClearTouch Crystal's in the mail today. Excitement! Out of the package, one was scratched, one had smudges and fuzz all over it, and the other was fine. I attempted to do the "tape hinge" method that I read about.... didn't work. After fiddling for several hours, I have given up. It is IMPOSSIBLE to get these things on properly. Everytime you wash it, by the time it dries, there is dust on it. I can never get it on perfectly straight either. When you are drying it after washing it, it is impossible to hold it in such a way whereas no fingerprints get on it! Furthermore, the Boxwave packaging says that it is OK to put the protector back on the PDA with a few droplets of water left on it! Are they nuts! If any water got inside of the PDA, it would be ruined! I read on this site that you are not even supposed to use compressed air to clear dust, because the air can get inbetween the top layer and the gel, and create a bubble! And the clothes that come with the ClearTouch are utterly useless. They just spread the dust all over the place, and/or add more dust! Useless!

Has anyone else had such a ridiculous experience with these devices? I don't see how people are getting them on without problems. Even when I have gotten it on, it isn't smooth. There are bubbles all over the place! How are those of you who have mentioned it, getting your protectors to "look like glass" or whatnot? I am finding this impossible!

I purchased a 3 pack over a year ago and I'm on my second one. Takes a bit of fineagling, but ti will go on. There is a "knack" to it, and it can be frustrating @ times. I suggest contact customer support regarding the "scratched" item. Be prepared to take a digital photo of the damaged protector . . .

Good luck on getting your scratched screen protector replaced. If you got a digi cam ur saved I think otherwise be prepared to pay and then get a credit back.

Anyway to get the bubbles out...ur suppose to gently push the bubbles out with that card they supplied. Did you read the instructions? it did say to gently squeeze the bubbles out. If there's no card in there...then use a credit card...REMEMBER! the key is to be gentle

Also, dabbing at the underside of the protector with tape will help remove the dust/lint. I gave up- but my sister did this, got both hers and mine installed beautifully.

Do the steam room trick - run the shower in your bathroom until the mirror fogs up, then apply the protector. The steam helps trap a lot of the dust in the air. I did this just the other night and got the protector on perfectly with no dust the first time.

And FWIW I've used compressed air on "naked screen" PDAs a bunch of times with no problems.

I am going to have to find someone with more patience or something... even though I think that 2 hours is plenty of patience.

Does anyone else have any helpful tips?

Hmm good idea, I will try that method! How do you recommend that I clean the protector, now that it's original protective backing is gone? How can I clean the protector and dry it, without getting fingerprints or dust on it?

Email Boxwave customer support about getting the ones damaged in transit replaced, then try the Noisy Crow Method of applying

I feel your pain, I tried several times before I finally got mine on properly with no dust. Finally gave up trying to put it on at home and did it at work in a class 100 cleanroom.

The reason I, and another member, mentioned this is because I believe the'll require a photo of the damaged item. Another member mentioned that they had to submit a photo in order to get a replacement. I agree wit FullText, give the "NoisyCrow" method a go . . .

Don't worry about the water droplets. Just shake it out as best you can then apply it. There's very little water.

LOL...Yup thats boxwave's service. You gotta love them (SARCASM HERE) Anyway, they'll tell you that they'll ship another one to you but put it on your credit card as purchase. Meanwhile your suppose to ship the defective back to them at your costs. And then eventually they will credit you back for both the purchase and shipping.

Anyway, I applied it with the dust on it. I plan to use it just for alittle while longer and then buy another brand. But definitely no more boxwave

Here's a new twist on the "Boxwave Bungling"... I just ordered the three-pack of ClearTouch Crystals and received a small package from Boxwave today in the mail. Anxious to put a ClearTouch on my newly acquired X50v, I was stunned to find a miniSync cable for an Audiovox PPC in the package. Some poor soul in a different state (his name and contact information were included on the invoice in the package) was expecting this much as I was expecting my screen protectors-- but alas, neither of us have the products we paid for and will be forced to expend time and energies to get things straightened out. How difficult is it to send the correct order to a person? And, to top things off, Boxwave does not have a phone number listed on their website and advertise they don't work on weekends so it will be late Monday as they don't open until 10AM (Pacific time as well!) until someone presumably reads the email I sent them.

i actually managed to get mine on without a spec of dust underneath it on the first try - it looked gorgeous - for about 10 minutes

then the sides of the screen protector began to come up - i gently rubbed them back to the surface of the ppc with the enclosed card but - alas - that only lasted about another 10 minutes - now - when you look at my axim when it is off - it looks atrocious - it looks like a cheap plastic screen protector - all four edges have come up...

i suppose it serves its purpose in "protecting" the screen - but it looks hideous - i am VERY disappointed with it...
