external microphone for x30?
i have an axim x30H/624 and i just bought a 1gb sd card for it, hoping to record my class lectures on it. i know there is no microphone jack on the x30, but does anyone know if there is some way to connect a microphone to the x30 with some other way? maybe there is a product that connects a microphone to the base input, or even something that allows it to go thru the headphone input and still work...

anyone know of anything like this?

the is a realy geek solution: Open your Axim, locate the microphone, solder the microphone of and put two wires instead. Then either also solder off the headphone plug and solder on the two wires or get the wires out of the axim and solder a plug on there.
But I think it should be quite difficult to solder on a axim....

Greetings

No external mic options, but you can download vito sound explorer and use the gain adjust. May work may not.
Maybe worth a try.

I would like an answer to this question also. I read in another thread that you can not use a pc or mobile phone head set to record on the pda is this true?

I've used mine to record many lectures. The built-in mic is very sufficient for recording voice it's just not uni-directional. If you're in a lecture hall and the speaker is mic'd, SoundExplorer absolutely rocks recording right into 96kbps MP3. Un-mic'd is tricky - sit near the front.

Either way, you'll get noticable echo. Tweak gain and sit in different places in the hall or room 'til you find a good spot. As you move around the hall, emulate what your Axim hears by plugging one ear - you'll hear all the echo and a realistic approximation of medium gain. Another thing to look into would be SE's equalizer - I'm not sure if it applies to recordings. If it does you could get rid of a bunch of background noise that way.
