i got a regular mp3 headphone that works on both the mp3 and my other cd player... when i tried to get it into the x30, it seemed extremely difficult to get in, so i didn't force it. Is my phones wrong, or am i just paranoid?

I've had no problems with using my X30H with several earphones and speakers with standard 1/8" plugs...

I just got an X3 and noticed that the hadphone jack seemed snug, but normal heaphones do fit

Check your connectors buddy. You might have some sort of proprietary connection for your mp3 player.
