Palm universal IR keyboard user review
Just thought I'd let everybody know the Palm Universal IR Wireless Keyboard is so far a good buy.

I purchased mine on closeout (MUCH cheaper ($41) than even the cheapest on-line price ) at my local Staples.

I remembered someone mentioning their success with the Think Outside IR keyboard and downloading the drivers directly from their website. Well, once I saw the driver on the CD was 1.0, I figured there had to be a more recent update on the Palm website. Well, there was. I never even bothered to open the included CD

Install was easy through Active Sync and they communicated right from the start from the keyboard to my Ax 30h.

One very important issue, it DOES skip letters as mentioned in other reviews both at Axim Site and others places for no apparent reason and at random intervals. Mine did as well even with the most recent driver. But what I found was tweaking the settings made the problem disappear (knock on wood).

If you are an owner of the Palm IR keyboard and vexed by this problem, try switching the "Rate of delay until repeat" all the way to "long" and the "Key Repeat Rate" line one click below the farthest Slow notch. Hasn't missed a letter yet.

I'm not sure if all Staples are closing them out at these great prices (I live in a kind of technologically backward community so maybe it just wasn't selling locally) but if you are out and about and looking to pick one up, it might be worth a visit.

Hope this helps

Maybe it was just at my local Staples, like I said, I'm not living in the most technologically astute community. The "few" PDA users I run across are using theirs only as a VERY expensive phone book. (Typical conversation: "So, how do you like your Palm / PPC model whatever?" "Oh, this thing, I only use to keep phone numbers." And I'm not talking about the cheap Palm Zire 71's either. These people have shelled out some serious money for Tungsten T3's and HP iPaq's and the like)

Maybe it's not listed on their website as a closeout because they are probably bigger sellers nationally

BTW
Another quirk I have discovered with the Palm IR keyboard: if you leave it on for an extended break, expect it to act goofy if you sit down and start trying to use it again (i.e. skipping whole chunks of words, spaces, etc). I've found (like everything else it seems) a reboot of the keyboard (not your PPC) will get it back to listening to your keystrokes just dandy.
