Question Working Out with Axim

I'm looking for a solution for my x30 that allows me to work out and listen to music. I'd love to find an armband like they make for MP3 players, but then started thinking about protection. Is it even good for me to be working out with my beloved Axim? I'm thinking first about all the jostling around when running or whatever, much less the possibility of falling or something (but I guess you have that risk with an MP3, too). Anyway, does anyone use their Axim for the gym or other workouts and how so? Thanks!

hi, actually i use it only after i'm done i use it to surf the net..i dont know if its ideal to use it in the gym though?you probably be better-off with a mp3 player other than its awkward in your arm you might look weird too..but its just me. probably somebody in here is doing that..good luck :approve:

I'd suggest finding a low cost alternative, or a permanent alternative to working out with an Axim...there's just too much that can go wrong. Look at the smaller flash players, up to 256 MB, such as Creative's players or Gateway's discontinued lines. They are USB plug and play (no proprietary software needed) and you can store 4 hours of music there, more than enough for the normal workout.

Or buy an iPod or Dell DJ or some other device if you want to carry more music with you.

I'd just not want to take the risk with my Axim if I could help it. Plus, battery life isn't that great anyway.

Good luck!

Ditto

Buy a cheap ass Mp3 player from Wal-Mart of K-mart. That's a better alternative I believe.

I use my Axim when working out all the time and I work out way more than the average person. When biking, it fits in the outside most pocket of my Camelbak. Walking/Running outside it rides in a fanny pack in FL, when in MN a Crumpler bag attached to the climbing belt (minus crotch straps) that I wear because I'm also attached to as many as THREE! labrador retrievers. Walking/Running/Stair climbing inside I just set it on the book rack of whatever machine I'm using. Kayaking it's in a ZipLoc in my deck bag. Boating: this trip I'll be testing an OttorBox, previosly I just wrap it in a towel. I always keep a spare on the shelf of those devices that are near and dear to my heart and have yet to need it.

Yeah there's no way that I would work out with my x50v. No way. I have an MP3 player anyway. If I had nothing, I would buy a cheap MP3 player or boombox or something.

Worried c'mon folks, live a little

Jeez folks, I just stumbled across this thread while trying to catch up after being away for a couple days.

I can't believe you all don't get the max out of something you already paid hundreds of dollars for and then are suggesting a newbie do the same.

Light22
I use my Ax30h to work out 3 - 4 times per week (every week) with absolutely no problems whatsoever at all never ever ever.
I have a third party flip case with a belt clip that I slip in a pants pocket of my workout gear and attach the belt clip. Simple. Case solved. No chance of it sliding out even if I hang upside down. I use the stationary bike, elliptical trainer and free weights. Never had a problem.

A pair of good headphones and either GS Player or WMP with PlayListEditor (all FREE programs) and I've got my MP3 player.

What's the big deal? It's securely attached to me via the beltclip and, with no moving parts, I don't see how taking it in and out of my pocket would cause it any harm anymore so than taking it in and out of your pocket at work or wherever.

And since I don't workout at the gym naked, no moisture is anywhere near it that isn't protected by the clothing I'm wearing and being in a flip-case in my pocket. (I purposely purchase all of my sweats/workout gear with pants pockets for just this reason.)

That was one of the reasons I was so happy to get my Ax, so I didn't have to purchase a seperate MP3 player and haul two pieces of electronics when one very versatile device would do.

Live a little. Why not take full advantage of something you've paid big bucks for? That's one of reasons you brought the thing, to be more productive.

That's 2 strong votes for using it. Thank you both for your encouragement. I have a workout plan all set up in Listpro on my Axim, but realize I need a better case. Walkerbroadcas, can I ask what brand that third party flip case your using is? I agree wholeheartedly that I don't want to have to buy a second gadget when I already make full use of the media player in other situations.

I've jostled my Axim around and it can handle it. I've tossed it into a backpack and went bike riding, I've set it on a tray on the treadmill and jogged and I'm dying to use it more for jogging, etc. as soon as I can find a secure, comfortable way to carry it. I'd love to hear from more users here on this.

I agree as well! Since there aren't any harddrives in the axim, it's actually safer to jog around with that than the ipod.

You should ALWAYS be careful with your electronics, but that doesn't mean you have to keep them locked up in a cage.

As for me, I'm still searching for the perfect workout solution. Some things, like the treadmill, have their own "storage area" so I can just set the axim down.

I've always wanted to buy a misc. arm band that fits any device, but I'm not sure if it'll fix ym axim. I suppose you can always get a belt clip.

Put up another vote for using it. I have an aluminum case and it's survived many falls around 4 feet, i think it can handle some smooth jossling due to jogging. Once I had it in my pocket while using a beveler, which probably was a bad idea, since all the metal chips fell into my pocket and got attracted to the speaker. But besides that, no problems...

I've been using my PPCs during workouts since I got the X5. The only time I've had a problem was in the locker room. Twice I've stuck it in the locker while I shower and then have pulled it out onto the tile floor with my towel or clothes. Both times (it was actually my iPaq), the sd card popped out but the leather case protected the unit itself.

Now I make sure to put it into my shoe in the locker so it's less likely to get pulled out accidentally.

Axim while working out

I work out three or four times a week with my x30. I have it in a rhino case and I wear a fanny pack. On the treadmill, bike and elliptical machine I put the x30 in the machine's holder while I exercise. If I use equipment that does not have a holder I just keep it in my fanny pack. I listen to music and keep track of my workouts at the gym. I have done this for a year with no problems. Some times depending on what I am wearing I just slip it in my pocket as well. :approve:

well i'm one of the newbies without a clue. i purposefully bought the ax to minimize the number of things i have to think about or switch out. so i work out with it at the gym. that is one of the reasons i sprung for a 4 gb cf card and have been playing around with BT headphones. as of this week, have the headphones and ax working great. most of the time at the gym, i have the ax in a bag with my id, gloves and towels so it is with me at the ellipticals, free weights, mat and machines. it has worked great. At another gym this small bag is in a locker on the side of the room, again no worries and lots of tunes. :approve: :approve:

my case has a very secure belt clip and i am surprised how small the ax actually is. i will probably run with it as well, although I don't think i would bike or swim with it (h20 proof cases not withstanding)
